A major step forward.
The Mackie Tracktion 2 adds over 100 new features and updates. Retained is the groundbreaking core feature set that made the original version of this audio editing software so popular. Mackie also bundles a powerful suite of plug-ins from names like IK Multimedia that will give you big-time functionality right out of the box.
The clean, single-screen interface keeps all of the technical stuff out of the way so you can focus on your audio recording project. Just about every window and button is customizable, allowing you to tweak the program to your own standards.
T2 features a fully revamped MIDI editor with faster note entry, quicker controller and velocity editing, more intuitive keyboard control, and improved viewing of notes and controllers simultaneously. You can color code individual notes and even draw MIDI controller parameters with the new line tool. These enhancements, along with many others, add up to much more powerful MIDI functionality.
In addition to ReWire host functionality, T2 now offers more synchronization support, including MIDI Time Code I/O and MIDI Clock output for working with hard disk recorders, keyboard workstations, groove boxes, and more. T2 can also send and receive MIDI Machine Control commands, opening the door to external transport control and integration with modular digital multitrack and hard disk recorders. T2 can also integrate any MIDI controller with ease, thanks to the advanced mapping function. And MIDI step recording allows you to enter notes at your own pace. This powerful feature lets you sequence even the most complicated passage with confidence and ease.
8 auxiliary sends and returns can be used for tasks like sharing a reverb on the different instrument tracks in a drum kit.
T2 supports QuickTime video, allowing you to compose music, add effects, replace your dialog, and win your Oscar.
A high-definition, 64-bit mix engine means T2 can handle 192kHz audio interfaces for the ultimate in digital performance.
Tracktion 2 includes a full suite of name brand plug-ins, virtual instruments, and loops from publishers like reFX, IK Multimedia, Bismark, Big Tick, and Acuma Labs, to name a few. Right out of the box, T2 has all the basic music-making and mixing tools you'll need to get going.

I was using other software (w/initials D and P) for the mac. Not only is traction easy to use, but listen to it very closely and you will find that it mixes in a very musical sounding way unlike the former software which costs 2-3 times more. It lacks the ability to work directly with time stamps and it lacks true surround capabilities - if you can live without those things as I can....get it. You won't be sorry.
As easy as a DAW software can get! Great for a newbie like me, who HASN'T used a standard mixer console model with all the sends, returns, bussing etc. This treats every track as a signal chain that you can see from input to output. It's very "big picture" so novices like me don't get trapped in some submenu somewhere. Seems very polished. The GUI is clean and functional, you won't get a virtual knob graphic with knurls here :-) Comes with a lot of good VST plugins, including mastering. Although there are pretty good free/cheap sequencers around (Kristal, n-track), they have some limitations. Tracktion is worth the money for the interface alone (for me). I haven't had any issues, it's great. I'm a novice and just getting started. I use a Zoom MRS-8 to record with and then do mixing offline on Tracktion. So I don't use it for audio capture, just mixing and mastering. But I HAVE used it with an audio interface (TASCAM US-122) and it works great.
This is pretty simple software, ie. it is a bit easier to set up than most, and its advance feature are not what you would expect from "pro" software - if you are serious about recording - this won't allow you to do all you want, especillay if used over software like Cakewalk. Just a cheap middle entry - good plug-in though
This is a great software bundle! You get lots of vst instruments,a single screen format, and (dig this!)as many tracks as your PC can handle! The vst instruments are great, especialy the "slayer guitar"(you get alot of different guitar sounds and effects). With this software you have a complete studio that's very easy to use and does not cost alot of money. Please buy this you will be very happy with it!
Until recently I was an Acid Pro user, before that I used Logic before they dropped PC support. I can honestly say that Tracktion is the most brain dead simple music software I have ever used. The interface is easy to use, all the information is readily available on screen, and it comes with tons of usable plug ins. For the price of a soft synth upgrade, you get a powerful recording stuido in a box.
I bought this cause at the time the M-box didnt have midi. Although it does now, the Spike along with this software is well worth the money. They have made many update since I bought is and it just keeps getting better and better. I use it on my G4 Ibook. I also use it for midi and audio production and its great! Good audio quality and effects.
Bought this from MF and found it to be an excellent studio program for someone moving into PC recording. Comes with tons of features and plugins. Their forum on Mackie website helped me thru a few stumbling blocks quickly. Get this program, you will be amazed at how fast setup goes and how quickly you are making music.
