Seems to be very reilable so far. I'm gonna buy a second one as backup though because anything could happen. I'm very happy with the Bad Monkey, definitely one of the most exciting gear discoveries I've made this year.
Has both treble AND bass controls, a level knob and a drive knob, and, very unusual for a dirt box, a choice of mixer OR amp outputs. Than means you can play it through a regular guitar amp or you can run direct through a PA. Sure you can run your guitar direct through any OD pedal into a PA but most of the time it sounds awful. The mixer output on the Bad Monkey turns your high-impedance guitar signal into a low-impedance output that will match most PA setups. This is also known as 'balanced output'. That shoots the features right up to 10.
I would give this pedal a 10 even if it cost three times the price. I was skeptical when I first read reviews of the Bad Monkey but there were simply so many positive comments I figured it was worth it. The thing that pushed the decision, too, was the fact that it has outputs for both amp and mixer. Meaning it's like having both a dirt pedal and a DI box in one small pedal. I play direct a lot, mostly with DJs (I know, the dark side, but it pays well and since it's like playing with a rhythm machine, good for honing my timing - or so I tell myself), but also more and more with regular live bands, ie an Indian fusion group I played with recently. Before I got the BM, I was carrying around a Behringer Ultra-G direct box (and awesome DI box, but bulky) and a Route 66 (which has been my main OD for the last 10 years). The Bad Monkey has replaced both of them.

The sound is much better than I expected. I was getting bored with the OD side of my Route 66 anyway. Like the tubescreamers it's modeled after, it was a real smooth, velvety, middy OD sound. The way I've been playing the last couple of years I needed a little more edge to the OD, and this bad boy has it all the way. Plus having both treble and bass controls means being able to sculpt the tone more than you can with a lot of OD pedals. It sounds incredible, whether using the mxer or amp side. I would say my Behringer Ultra G sounds better as a DI box alone, so it's not quite a 10. But it sounds very, very good and the OD is my favorite of all my ODs now.
Dirtbox and DI box rolled into one for this price? Incredible value.

The first thing that drew me to this pedal was the fact that it had a Low knob on it. Like veryone else, I was sick of how so many OD/Distortion pedals suck your low-end (why more companies haven't added a Low knob to their OD's is beyond me).I bought initially as a boost for soloing. But I discovered a much better use for it..it makes sub-par distortion boxes sound fantastic!! I have my full on modern metal sound in the bag (Metal Muff) but had gone through a good number of other distortion boxes trying to get my classic hard rock/blues sound. I had finally settled on the Boss Blues Driver but the sound still wasn't there. The Blues Driver can be a bit thin and harsh with a loose bottom end. But I put the Bad Monkey in front of it and WOAH! It tightened the Blues Driver right up! Solid low end, smoothed out the harshness on the treble and put the growl in the mid's...."that sound" was suddenly there! So if you're currently hemorraging $$$ trying to find that perfect Distortion pedal, but the Bad Monkey instead and give it a go with your existing pedals. I'll bet you'll find "it".

this overdrive is pretty wicked there are more reasons to buy it than to not buy it

with a two band EQ there is much more versatility than a boos pedal also the price tag isnt going to murder your credit score

there is the matter of tone suck every time i use it with just a clean signal i have to use my EQ pedal to boost the highs

You can't always go by reviews. Consumers gave rave reviews on this pedal. I didn't like it. It lacked tone. Even though it had a low end control, there was no bass- it was flat. The high control was too trebly- couldn't hear the low end no matter how much I tweaked it. I'm a tone purist- this pedal lacked tone. It's going back.

When my Telecaster is set to bridge pickup this pedal gives my lead tone more than just highs adding some very pleasing mids for color. I really enjoy the sound of this pedal. Well worth the investment.

For [$] bucks, the Digitech BM is a better than average pedal for the blues, rock, etc players. It has 2 outputs, but I particularly like having control of both Low and High tones. The overdrive itself is warm and throaty, with lovely sustains you'd get from a nice high-volume tube amp. It is fairly unintrusive to your natural tone, but this is where I have minor gripes, as I think the low-end response sometimes suffers a bit. But overall, I've compared this to all the Boss overdrive pedals, the Ibanez TS9 and TS808, the DeltaLab T01, and the Digitech SC-2 Valve pedals.. the bad monkey definitely lands in my top 3. For it's price though, probably the best one I've used.

VERY quiet. I can set it so my tone remains completely undesturbed.
                            Love the seperate tone controls
Strange way to house battery but works fine!
Best for the money by far

I bought this because i liked how it sounded on the frettedamericana videos that PhilX does.

I have a TS909 tube screamer, a 78 custom badass and an OCD pedal, but I really had to try this one, because for the low price seemed too good to pass up.

I must say, if I could only have one of these 4 pedals, I can't see any reason why not to keep the bad monkey. it's rich, full and sounds like it has a tube in it.

If you are watching your pennies and need some gain, I highly recommend this pedal. Also, thanks to Phil X, you probably will never find another pedal with so much online footage to listen to.
