OVERVIEW

A hot-rodded overdrive pedal featuring true bypass.

The DigiTech HardWire CM-2 is a tube overdrive pedal that has what you're looking for, whether you need a little gain in front of your clean combo or just some boost into your distorted tube head. The CM-2 pedal's Classic/Modified option switches between classic overdrive circuitry for a smooth overdriven tube sound to a fatter, hot-rodded tone with extra gain without stepping on your signature tone. Low and High tone controls open up endless sonic possibilities.

The DigiTech HardWire pedal series represents DigiTech's commitment to quality and attention to subtle details. In addition to technical enhancements like true bypass and high voltage operation, all HardWire pedals feature rugged, all-metal construction; a wide, stage-stable footprint; durable, custom-machined metal knobs for a sure grip; and precision potentiometers that guarantee knob positions will stay put.

The rugged, durable construction of Extreme Performance Pedals is just the beginning. Inside each DigiTech HardWire pedal are technological features that serious players require—all updated and improved to their utmost capacity. True bypass preserves the purity of your original tone as signal passes through the pedal. High voltage operation further protects your sound by eliminating clipping and other signal degradation caused by power drain.

With the high-output pickups found on some electric guitars, it's not unusual to hear clipping when playing through an effects pedal. This occurs when the voltage range produced by a guitar's pickup is greater than the operating voltage of the effects pedal—normally limited to the voltage supplied by the effect's battery or power supply. HardWire pedals incorporate circuitry that increases the operating voltage headroom above that of the typical pedal. As such, HardWire pedals benefit a wider range of guitars and are also at home in an amplifier's effects loop.

HardWire Pedals include the following stage accessories:
Stomplock™ knob guard locks your tone in place and prevent tampering or accidental knob adjustments onstage
Pedal Switch Glow Sticker helps you locate the pedal in adverse stage lighting
Custom-cut Hook and Loop Pedalboard Pad to attach and lock your pedals to your pedalboard

I have been using this pedal for a solid 3 years now, played dozens of shows with it, stomped on it over and over again and it continues to deliver. If you're thinking about buying some fancy Tubescreamer re-issue, save your money and buy this. It is fat, warm and toneful, transparent enough to let your guitar shine through, but not so transparent that it doesn't sound good on the clean channel of an amp. The bass and treble controls that replace a global "tone" control are far superior for tone shaping, in my opinion. I have tried other pedals like the BB Pre-Amp, AC Booster, OCD, TS-808's, this pedal is just as good if not better. It never leaves my board.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I don't own a lot of pedals so I am pretty careful about which ones I buy. I've owned the Hardwire Tube OD for about a year or so and I really enjoy using this. For me, the best part is the toggle switch between classic and modified OD. Between this and the other controls, you can go from a soft, rounded, bluesy overdrive to a harder, clipped, rock overdrive with a lot of tones in between.

The pedal has a solid feel and I doubt that it will fall apart, unless you really abuse it. Getting to the battery is different than what I was used to, but still very easy. I recently put together a pedal board with a power supply (no more 9 volt batteries). The pedal wasn't noisy before, but its dead quiet now. (Note: if you haven't done this yet, you really should.)

All this, and it really isn't very expensive at all.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

A useful addition my my collection of overdrives. Versatile tone selection with the separate tone controls, plus the Vintage and Modified OD circuits.

Seems to be of sturdy construction and I expect it to last a long time.

The only "nit" I have is that the pedal was shown on the website as a "Hardwire Tube Overdrive", but when it was received, it is branded as a "Digitech Tube Distortion".

Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I really wanted to like this pedal. I thought the sound was very good , transparent, added a nice fullness to my amp.I also liked the high and low frequency adjustments , instead of a single tone knob. It offered more tweak ability. Unfortunately I had to return it due to excessive noise. If you turned the low frequency dial in any direction other than noon, it would cause quite a bit of white noise/static. 12 noon, pedal was relatively quiet, but once you touched the low frequency knob it introduced noise. Even with the gain all the way down. It wasn't the hum of a hot boosted signal or excessive gain, just static type noise. I have other digitech pedals and never questioned their reliability . I'm crossing my fingers this is an isolated incident, as I've ordered a replacement. It did sound a lot better than my current overdrive pedal, and for the SDOTD price, you can't really lose. I gave 4 stars based on getting a defective pedal, otherwise the sound of this pedal rivals boutique pedals costing much more.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Awesome pedal! I picked this up on a SDOTD kind of on a whim, and am happy I did. It quickly replaced the TS clone on my board that I have been using for years. In classic mode this nails the TS808 sound, but is more versatile in shaping your frequencies.

On top of that, the build quality is top notch.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I wanted a pedal to fatten & dirty up my bass with an over-driven tube sound that didn't bury the fundamental with harmonics. Bingo! I bought the "Valve Distrortion", but it wasn't the sound I was looking for. I love the solid construction of this line of pedals, but the plastic push pin hinge is a bit cheesy.

Hands down the best overdrive/distortion pedal on the market. If you took a TS-9, added alot more gain, added true bypass, added separate bass and treble controls, added a switch for a more modern low end boosted sound, you would arrive at this pedal. It can go from clean boost all the way to 80's hard rock/metal with ease. To top it all off, it doesn't color your tone, unless you want it to. If you use it like I do, It's like adding a master volume to your amp, it just adds gain without changing your tone. I took a chance on this based on you tube sound reviews and it has not disappointed. Save your cash on the expensive boutique pedals, this one absolutey rocks.

I don't use a lot of pedals on my board, but I got to the point I wanted to try an overdrive pedal. I thought about the Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, but went with the Digitech Hardwire CM-2 Tube Overdrive because I have had such success with the rest of the Hardwire line. I wasn't disappointed in the least. I knew I would get some gain, but had no idea how much this pedal would open up the clean channel on my Blackstar HT-5R. I would recommend it to a friend.

This awesome tube overdrive does everything that the classic TS pedals do, but it has all the mods that players have tended to do i.e, added tone control and variable gain settings already done for you, and it won't cost an arm and a leg. It's like a bad monkey on steroids! It will give you the subtle boosted overdrive that pushes the front end of a gritty tube amp, all the way to a powerful crunch. In short, you need this OD!
