I bought this pedal at a pawn shop for 7 just cause they thought it was defective. I took a gamble and it paid off. Your getting multiple distortion or overdrive tones in 1 pedal which could make gigging easier and your pedal board a little lighter. Every pedal it imitates it is almost spot on except the rat pro and ds1. I know you'll think I am crazy but it actually sounds better than the rat pro and ds1. As far as overdrive or distortion goes this is one of the most versitile and best sounding pedals I have used and I own a TS 9, blues screamer, bigmuff, rat pro co, mod tone speedbox and have tried a ds1. I can consider myself very lucky to have stumbled on a great pedal at an insane price. I use this with a jag master dual HB guitar and an American strat and get an array of great tones. Sounds really good through a blues Jr or through a 4x12. At retail this is still a great deal cause this pedal does not sound like cheap digital interpretation of great distortion tones but like real full tones. The case is rugged the knobs feel a little cheap but all peddles nowadays use cheap plastic knobs. If you play blues, rock, country or anything I would say this pedal is a must.

This pedal is far from stageworthy. it kills a 9 volt battery in less than 15 minutes. there have been several times that i have been playing a set and it died right there causing a lot of feedback through all of the monitors. If you are thinking about buying this pedal, i recommend buying a boss od-20 instead. it has multiple distortions and doesn't eat batteries like candie or blow monitors!

I own the DigiTech Death Metal, Hot Rod, and Screamin' Blues pedals. They all sound different. They all sound great. And I love the mixer out feature for recording.

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

I bought this guitar pedal about five years ago while I was in high school. I was in a small band lead by my guitar teacher and needed something to put in front of the Fender Twin-Reverb that was provided. At the time I had a small 12" Roland Cube which was a modeling amp so I didn't feel the need to get any pedals, especially with my budget. I got this pedal used from my local guitar shop, deciding to take a chance. From the first time I plugged it in, I have been impressed with its excellent tone, boost, and ability to go from a high distortion GN'R sound, to a bluesy overdrive, to a low grungy punch. Five years later I have gone through a few other distortion pedals but I keep coming back to this one. It still resides on my pedal board in front of my Marshall. My model is a little bit older, it says, "Hot Rod - Rock Distortion" but other than that the pedal still looks the same. I highly recommend this pedal, especially if you are on a budget. I would also recommend getting a power supply as this pedal drains batteries very quickly.

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

I was looking for a good rock distortion pedal. Something between a blues driver and a metal distortion. This one fits beautifully. It has the morph function that has a pretty wide range of tones and helps dial in the sound you are looking for. No it is not a boutique pedal but is it as good? For the price you can try it and decide for yourself.

I like the range of distortions - light overdrive to full stack crunch with tone control to find the spot where it shines in the mix. The price is right too.

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

HOT ROD! You think RED, right? It looks red in the picture, but it's more like a metallic wine color. Ultimately, that doesn't matter, but it disappointed me. And this thing has an estimated 4 hour battery life...whether it's actually turned on or not. Just plugging in your guitar cable starts the countdown. That won't matter if you use a power supply, but I like to throw a couple of pedals in my bag, use them when needed, and not have to worry about changing a battery after every practice or two. On the upside, this pedal had two really good points. First, it sounds AWESOME! You really have a lot of tonal variation available...more than any pedal I've ever used. Second, it has a simulated speaker output. You can plug straight into a PA (or DI) or a recording interface and dial in a pretty good distorted sound. This is great live or for demos.

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

I picked this up on The Stupid Deal of the Day, and I'm FAR from dissappointed. I use distortion sparingly, so it really means something when I do. This distortion is not only nasty, but, with the Morph X, you can feel it move your guts around. Like you feel a sub drop and bass drum, you can feel the sound of your guitar!

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

This is by far my favorite pedal.

I got one back in 2005, and proceeded to use it so much, i wore out the bypass switch. it still works (sort of), but i ended up retiring it, and got another one....

it's very versitile, can dial in pretty much any sound you need, and if you need more, just put a boost in front of it, and hold on tight.

I rarely use it with a battery, so i can't comment on battery life, but i can say, the battery access is the best. use cable end to pop the top off. no need for tools, or to remove the pedal from your board...

I am so happy to see they are still selling this.
when the time comes, i will get a third one without hesitation
