I purchased these mics as a replacement for many more expensive professional mics that I had sold off throughout the years after closing a commercial studio. Some heavy hitters for professional studio use.
I'm filling a need in a home studio. I didn't expect to get "high quality/robust" mics....just enough to do the job on a budget, as it's mostly for personal/occassional use now vs. my Senny's, AKG's Shures, etc., which were used in that commercial studio day in and day out.
Well, I'm actually very satisfied with this set for drum miking - Yes..even the kick mic that many seem to have negative opinions about. It works fine.....it's all about drum tuning/damping/mic position and proper EQ....not over EQ.....watch for those phase issues which will pull things apart.....miking drums properly is an art.
The mics are quite good and robust for my applications.....they will find many other uses as they all have different characteristics, and that's why you pick certain mics, not just the most well known, or expensive mics. I used to follow the pros advice, spent tons of $$ and finally learned that these are tools, and the user needs to be a craftsman, and it's what can be done in a craftsman's hands that makes the "magic". As long as the tools are well designed, hold up, and work properly, the rest is up to the user. I'm very happy with this CAD set. Are there better mics.....sure....but will these get you what you need on a budget.....YES!

Pretty decent set of mics, not bad for demos and home recording, give you a nice clear signal from each mic without a lot of bleed, but they don't sound very 'sweet.'

I could never get a good low pitched, fat floor tom sound out of any of the tom mics without a lot of EQ and compression, rack toms sounded ok though - The bass drum and snare mics were both ok, but nothing to write home about - The overheads felt ugly to me, and they didn't seem to sweeten up very much with EQ or reverb either.

In comparison I always used a relatively inexpensive set of 2 MXL condensers as overheads or room mics and either of those mics made the drumset sound better, fuller, and sweeter than the whole set of CADs. When listening back and mixing down I would almost always end up muting the CAD toms and overheads and using the MXLs instead.

I would've been better off spending a little more on a nice bass drum mic and an sm57 to go with my two good overhead condensers and doing a 4 mic approach (which is what I'm doing now).

Comments about CAD PRO-7 Drum Microphone Kit (7-Piece):

I see other comments about these not working well, however if you know how to properly set them and adjust the eq with a little reverb, they work great. I get great sound from all the mics, even the kick eq'd properly gives a great punch! The only negative comment I have, and it's more personal is the clips, i wish they were a little more flexiable as far as attachment goes.

Comments about CAD PRO-7 Drum Microphone Kit (7-Piece):

Great sounding mics. Durable and made to last. You can't but mics separately if you want one extra tom Mic. Also the design of the attachment could be a little more built to last. Condenser mics came connectivity is too snug.

Comments about CAD PRO-7 Drum Microphone Kit (7-Piece):

These are being used in our mini-studio to currently record drums for an independent release.
For the price these can't be beat.
The snare mics are ok. I eventually replaced the top snare mic with an SM-57. The top mic kept distorting when hitting rim shots or using heavy dynamics on the snare.
The mics can easily distort if not EQ'd just right. I'm currently running them through an older analog board we're using as a pre-amp. With some TLC they give you great clarity and depth.
They are certainly durable and easily clip on your drums. Just take your time getting them to sound just right and you won't be disappointed.

Comments about CAD PRO-7 Drum Microphone Kit (7-Piece):

I got this set just to have some drum separation in a small home studio recording set up. The idea was just to get scratch tracks down and for that, these work perfectly.

I must agree with previous commenters about the poor sound quality overall, especially the "snare" mic and tom mics (which, I believe are the same mic, just one has "snare written on it).

I was, however pleasantly surprised that I could get a decent sound from the kick drum mic. I placed it right inside the sound hole of the kick drum and just added some EQ to the lows and highs and it's really not bad sounding at all.

The overhead mics aren't terrible, but I happened to have a pair of MXL mics that work much better.

The bottom line is that you can't possibly go any cheaper than this set for this many mics. You get what you pay for.

As a sound guy, first time owner/user of drum mikes, I use them in a percussion environment mostly, for hand drums and for live performance for mostly small kits. Very versatile in an open mike, or jam nite environment for quick set changes. The carry case assures they have a safe home as well. Very pleased with their performance. I run them mostly through Behringer PA equipment and get a warm sound from them.

I've used these mices in various recording situations and live multi band scenarios as with my own band The "No ISSUES" Band. They've held up great and sound pretty good. I also have a number of other mices so I've had the opportunity to experiment a lot and I like these just fine. Great for the price.
