While the price is tantalizing, the quality of the mic is generally equivilant to the price. For bottom-of-the-line gear, I'd say to go with the digital reference pack. The kick mic in that one can get a punchy sound while this one sounds quite undefined and muddy. Comments about Gear One MK1000 Kick Drum Mic Package with Stand and Cable:

Saw it on "deal of the day" and decided to give it a try. Not really needing a different microphone for our bass drum (using Shure PG52),so I decided to use it on my bass cab. What can I say the bass is so much clearer in the mix and the other guys in the band also agree that it sounds great. The stand is good so far no complaints. Haven't tried the microphone cable yet but if I need one in a pinch I have one. Thanks again Musicians Friend.

Comments about Gear One MK1000 Kick Drum Mic Package with Stand and Cable:

Marketed as a kick drum mic, it is good for that ... although probably not much else.
When I got the mic I tried it on a variety of sources: It struck me as basically dull and with low sensitivity. Not good for any uses I would have for it.
Came a home studio recording session where the drummer wanted a separate mic on a low toned cajon that he was using as a kick drum - Viola! perfect sound. The low sensitivity kept it focused just on the kick, with very little bleed through, and the "dullness" of it gave a nice rounded low tone. I ordered a second one for live use.

Picked up the MK 1000 mostly for the price offered on the MF Deal of the Day. Not having a whole lot of expectations, I was totally blow away by the great sound and quality construction of this little package. Sure,..it is not a Shure but hey, it cost me less than a tank of gas and will last one heck of a lot longer!
