Comments about Audix D-2 Drum Microphone:

I started using these mics a while back, and I am very impressed with their ruggedness, sound reproduction, and overall look. I've used 57's for years, and while they're a great mic, the D2 has become my choice for my rack toms. For my floor toms I'm using the D4's, for my snare I'm using an i5 mic, and for the kick it's a D6. I've used a lot of different mics over the years for my large drum kit, and these mics require little EQ if any. I still use 57's in other applications along with the AKG I used on kick, but the D2's (and all of the audix mics I'm using)are a cut above. I would recommend these mics to any one who wants a good clean sound and great reproduction.

More Excellence from Audix

Ask me a question

Comments about Audix D-2 Drum Microphone:

I use D2s on all the toms (including the floor tom) and they are excellent. Sound reproduction is great and they have good off-axis rejection characteristics, making mic'ing a drum kit (THE most difficult aspect of live sound reproduction) a much less painful experience. The D2 will work on snare, but I still prefer the old SM57 for that particular drum. So a 57, a few D2s and (of course) a D6 on kick have become my no-brianer drum mics.
I suppose the mic's small size is a "feature" and makes placement easy.
Like all Audix mics I've used (and I've used a lot), the D2 is solidly built and they hold up to the rigors of live music situations.
Tope shelf value for middle of the road price

Great Brass Mic

By michael peterson

from Wisconsin

Comments about Audix D-2 Drum Microphone:

Used it to record my tuba. Gave it a little distance from the bell using a boom stand to hide the sound of my breaths, and it works beautifully! I have a clear acurate sound with no distortion. I was surprised by the sugestion and am glad I followed it!
Takes a bit of noise for it to pick up, but it picks up clearly and acurately. That's perfect when recording loud instruments like a tuba, or a trumpet!
This thing feels solid. The clip feels cheap, but it hasn't broke yet!
It's certainly well worth the price! Picked one up at a local store and they threw in a free mic stand because it didn't have it's original box. Worth every dime!

Solid Mic!

By Treelady

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Audix D-2 Drum Microphone:

This is a solid mic that has one of the best rejection patterns I've ever used. It's also smaller, which makes it very good for tight placements. A must for live work. The D2 is also pretty useful in the studio. If you already own an SM57, pick up a D2 as well.

Great for Doumbec

By Auntie Matter

from San Francisco

Comments about Audix D-2 Drum Microphone:

Reproducing the real sound of the middle eastern DOUMBEC is almost impossible with most microphones. The D-2 comes the closest to the natural resonance of the lows and crisp sharp highs of any other mic. For recording and live performance - Simply the BEST.

Recording and Live

By Zero-8i_oM

from Norwich, NY

Comments about Audix D-2 Drum Microphone:

I have been using these mics for a couple years now and I have found them to be THE best mics for toms in recording and live environments. Sure, the Sennheiser 421's might be a little better in recording, but for their much higher price?? Nothing comes close to the D2's anywhere near their price range.
