Setting a new price-to-performance standard in drum set mics.

Putting a completely new angle on miking toms and snares, the PL35 establishes a new price-to-performance standard for dynamic drum set microphones. Designed for super-fast transient response, and sonically-voiced to deliver open and natural tom and snare sounds, it employs a unique physical design that eliminates the need for right-angle XLR connectors, minimizing cable clutter over the drum. In addition to all of its other outstanding features, it also includes a clever snap-on drum rim clamp that mounts the mic directly to just about any brand drum rim. With its unique design, drum rim clamp, integrated swivel and supercardioid polar pattern for isolation, the PL35 will take its place as a must have microphone for outstanding live sound and recording studio performance.

Comments about Electro-Voice PL35 Drum Microphone:

We bought 8 of these for our various drum kits, freed up our sm57s and we are able to get the sound we want with less tinkering. They are solidly built, we wasted some money on some CAD mics before. These make them look like toys.. they weigh about a pound each but the solid mount holds them great. Very happy after wasting some money on other stuff.

Low Cost, Gets the job done nicely

Comments about Electro-Voice PL35 Drum Microphone:

I just picked up this mic at a very good low price. I have only used it as a snare bottom mic thus far and it gets the job done just the way I wanted it to. it is a capable and useable tool; nothing fancy, but can be a workhorse like a 57 for years...As far as the clip, I clipped it to the bottom hoop of my ddrum snare no problem...What I did was let one of the teeth grab the inner diameter of the hoop and then you hold the snare and forcefully stretch the clip across the hoop until it deforms enough to snap on to the outer diameter of the hoop

Great Mic Great Price

Comments about Electro-Voice PL35 Drum Microphone:

I have three of these that I use on toms. The clip is a little hard to get used to but once you get it you get it. The mics take eq very well and sound great live. More gain than an sm57. I am very pleased with this mic!

Good mic, but that clip...

Comments about Electro-Voice PL35 Drum Microphone:

This is a good sounding, hot mic. The angle is great for drums, too. The big problem is that the clip, which is supposed to fit most drum rings, doesn't seem to fit any at all! I've tried, multiple drummers have tried, multiple seasoned touring techs have tried, and none of us can figure out how the heck the clip is supposed to fit the drum ring. If there are any out there who know how to do it (EV support doesn't seem to want to talk about it), please post a review that explains it. If the clips worked, I'd rate these much higher.

Not a great drum mic

By JeffTheSoundguy

Comments about Electro-Voice PL35 Drum Microphone:

I got 11 of these for my business. I usually use the Sennheiser e604 and the Audix D2 mics on Toms and Snare. I was very disappointed in these mics, they have very slow transient response which makes them sound muddy. They also weigh a lot. The mic clips are similar to the e604 but are not easy to use, they fit only smaller rings and do not stretch out or snap on congas. They are however incredibly rugged in design and should last for years. They say they have cardioid pickup pattern but they picked up all the cymbals and high hat. It worked very well on the snare. For the B-stock price its a great mic, but not worth as much as the competition. Of the 4 I tried 3 worked and 1 did not. Two had the foam over the mic falling off of the 4 I checked as well.
