Beat your timbale with real maple sticks from Vater. Some of the world's greatest percussionists do.
Ask any drummer to make a list of his or her favorite drum sticks, and chances are pretty good that they'll put Vater at the top. Famed for the wide selection of sticks that they make, Vater has such a good selection that it's not an exaggeration to say they make the right stick for virtually every drummer. When you're looking for a stick that's perfectly balanced and has your ideal tip, you should be able to find exactly what you need in the Vater catalog. The variety and quality of today's Vater lineup has been a long time in the making. The history of Vater goes all the way back to the 1950s, when some of the best sticks in the world were made by Jack Adams in the basement of Jack's Drum Shop in Boston. His grandsons, Alan and Ron Vater, carried on that tradition through the '80s and, in 1991, set up the Vater company that we know today, bringing in modern production methods but taking care to preserve the hand-made feel and performance that made their grandfather's drum sticks so impressive.
Like most drum sticks, Vater makes most of their models out of hickory, which is a hard and durable wood that's uniquely well-suited to withstanding the impacts of drumming. If you'd like something a bit lighter, you can also find some of their sticks in sugar maple, which brings out a sweet, softer timbre from your drums and cymbals. On the other end of the weight spectrum are the Morgan Rose signature Alien Freak sticks -- they have no tip and no taper, just a double butt-end that makes them tough and powerful for rocking out hard and loud. Between those two extremes are dozens of different traditional sticks to choose from to get the ideal stick for you.
There are also plenty of other signature Vater drum sticks, in case you'd like to follow in the footsteps of your favorite drummers. For example, Stewart Copeland's signature sticks are perfect for his precise, high-energy drumming. You could even take Chad Smith's Funkblasters for a spin if you'd like to try your hand at recreating the style that helped land him in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Or, if you want the versatility of one of the world's most prolific session drummers, check out the Josh Freese H-220 sticks.
The list of artists who use Vater sticks is a long one, including drummers like Rikki Rockett, Mike Wengren, Sean Kinney and Matt Flynn, just to name a few. This is definitely a list that you can be proud to add your name to by trying out a set of Vater drum sticks. With the variety to offer every drummer's perfect pair and a reputation for quality that they definitely follow through on, Vater is always a solid choice.
