OVERVIEW

Go soft on your bum... so you can play hard.

Hard drum throne surfaces can be very uncomfortable and difficult to endure for extended periods of time. Without solid support and comfort, a drummer's style and creativity can be severely impaired.

Gibraltar's Softy Throne incorporates a top-grade 5"-thick cushion and an outer layer of plush Cordura fabric creating a soft and comfortable sitting surface. The Softy seat mounts on a double-braced tripod base with die-cast spindle height adjustment system and Gibraltar's Super Foot solid foundation rubber foot support.

I bought this throne after almost 20 years on a heavy duty Gibraltar motorcycle style throne. My old throne was good, but I started to feel like the foam was getting compressed and not supporting me enough (my behind went numb by the end of the night). The old throne also had a strange memory lock thing for the height adjustment that would loosen up in my bag, causing the throne to be at a random height every time I took it out of the bag. I also got tired of having to look down to turn the throne the right way to sit on it, since it is uncomfortable to sit on a motorcycle throne the wrong way.

This new throne is super comfortable. The seat is extra padded and I feel like I am sitting on a very sturdy seat. I was surprised how big the feet are on this throne. The base is very heavy duty (almost too heavy) and it will not creep on you no matter what happens.

The only con that I can think of is that Gibraltar ships this throne with their standard height base, which means that the lowest setting actually feels much higher than a regular throne. I am 5' 6" so I have it on the lowest setting and I'm already thinking about shelling out for the short throne base just to be able to lower it down that extra couple of inches. This sucks because now I will have spent a total of almost $200 when I could have just bought another popular brand (initials are PP) of extra thick padded throne for only $150. Gibraltar needs to get on the ball and ship this thing with the short base to start with.

Gibraltars quality is rock solid and I trust their equipment. But the softy is not soft, I weight 180 lbs and I don't put a dent in that thing. I own their Oversized Motorcycle Throne and its very soft and comfortable but bought this throne to tour with since its smaller but so far it's like sitting on a brick with cloth on it.

Comments about Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne:

Throne is very sturdy, very comfortable. Typically, using my old throne, my rear was quite sore from sitting at the end of a four hour gig. Not anymore! As others have mentioned, the seat sits rather tall even on lowest setting. I'm 6'2" tall and it works well for me set almost as low as it goes. I am very happy with the throne!

Good throne, but it didn't see anywhere in the description how low it went. I like to play with my thighs about parallel to the floor and it wouldn't me get that low. I'm 5'11'', and i needed it to go down about another 2 to 3 inches. I sent it back. I feel a throne is something you need to try in person before buying, like shoes.

Great and really comfy throne that I use when playing keyboards. This is much more padded than standard keyboard benches and cheap thrones. It feels sturdy and solid and the seat is so much more comfortable then the rest. Kind of pricey but is well worth it if you will be sitting during a whole set

Comments about Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne:

Your throne is one of the most critical pieces of equipment you can ever buy as a working drummer. It is worth the money to buy the best one you can. The Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne is a quality piece of equipment worth your checking out. The Clydesdale feet and double braced tripod legs provide a very stable platform. The piano thread post allows for micro adjustment to finely dial in the precise hight you need and the clamps and memory locks will keep it there breakdown after breakdown. The very thick (5" by 14") seat pad with a velour top provides an excellent seating surface for extended playing time. Overall the component materials are strong and durable guaranteeing many years of use. It is a bit heavy in the equipment case, but that flaw is negated by the throne's overall quality. Also, its minimal hight is going to be a problem for shorter players. I am 6' even and at its lowest setting it is perfect for me. Anyone smaller will feel too high in the saddle. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the product and the companies reputation. If you need a high quality, stable, durable, and comfortable throne (and your kind of a big guy) the Softy Throne may be just what you are looking for.
