The Alesis DM10X (6 piece drumkit) is a "great midi kit" & well worth the investment into new technology. I'm enjoying using it as a double bass kit (a 7 piece kit total - with two seperate kick pads & two Axis X-L2 Longboard single pedals). I haven't gotten into the details or discovered all options offered with the DM10 "Brain" Module yet... I'm still currently blown away with all the preset voices before adding my other two "Real Acoustical Drumkits" sounds into it via ddrum triggers & vise versa for using the technology back on acoustic kits for "Live" performances/recordings. The only thing I'm not liking about the Alesis DM10X is the head tensioner lug bolts with nuts. They tend to back-off from set tensions, even during normal play modes. Wish it was like the tensioners on real drum hardware (probably copyrighted).. The other unliked quality about the Alesis DM10X is sometimes samples triggered on the rims activate while playing something else (another voicing) on the drum heads without even hitting the rim triggers... From vibration shocks. Maybe this is a manageable feature discovered in sensitivity settings if any. Playing on the Alesis DM10X has already increased my advanced performance pocket & comfy groove zone feel tremendously tighter than before. Now to just get guitarists & other musicians on the same page would be an accomplishment, ..without always blaming the drummer for their own time feel mistakes! UGGGHHHHHH!!!! haha

I purchased this kit because I had a big 8 piece kit with tons of cymbals, and neighbors called cops for noise. So i bought this kit because it was decently priced, and it had the most pieces to try and compensate for my big kit. Well this kit is extremely noisy so if thats why your thinking of buying it, DON'T. I have had to get my kick pad replaced TWICE within 9 months because it was non responsive to hits. My hi hat pad can't handle fast hits. The hi hat control pedal is a joke. The cross talk is ridiculous you hit the ride and you get a tom sound also. All in all poor poor quality.

This purchase was my 2d set and couldn't be more happier with the Alesis DM10x kit. My first kit was for my own personal use and I've bought a 2d kit for my son that is interested in learning to play the drums. Needless to say, the kit has huge potentials for a beginning student to a professional musician both at home and on stage performance.

Very happy with this set. The module has many very nice preset kits. The ease of creating a custom kit from scratch or by copying from an existing kit is fantastic. It is like playing a completely different drum kit for every song.

Excellent quality.hardware and pads are solid. Great sound, must upgrade software and drum sounds from Alesis which was easy to get the perfect sensitivity of the pads and eliminate all crosstalk of pads. Alesis know what they are doing. Huge cymbals is a plus. More than enough for practice, considering taking to Church on stage. Definately worth the money. Just get a nice pair of headphones and a drum pedal, a throne and you're good to go.

Comments about Alesis DM10X 6-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

Bought as an at home practice kit. Works well. Still drives my wife crazy :) But the neighbors won't call the cops! Still an electric kit, but very close to real feel of drums. I love the large pads size. I'm always having to learn new cover tunes and has a place to plug in ext audio source such as computer/mp3 player so I can play along. Really is perfect for my use as practice kit. Pads are dual zone as well so the rim is an alternate sounnd to the drum. Also love the number of drums and cymbals it comes with. Everything but kick pedals with this one. Includes really nices snake cable with velcro for securing to rack to keep a neat setup.

A good deal for the money . .especially since the price drop for the holidays . .I've had mine for over a month now and got it on a price drop . . . fairly easy to set up, just take your time and it makes sense once you lay it out . . I'm glad I got the DM 10X set instead of the smaller heads . . . head response is fine, its not a batter head so you're not getting the stick rebound from a real drum but its doable. The sounds in the module are fine, trigger sensitivity seems to have been worked out so no big issues right out of the box. You can't choke the crash cymbals but at this price nothing to cry about. Hi Hat is a bit wobbly with pedal control at times. Over all a fun set that will keep you busy and the neighbors from complaining late at night when the urge to play hits. Totally editable kits and sounds . . . grab your sticks and get to it.

Comments about Alesis DM10X 6-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

This review relates to the pads only

Depending on the price you pay for this kit:
Excellent in comparison to similar price point pads ... AND ... Value compared to much higher priced pads.

The 12" pads have a decent (medium weight) playing response. If you "club" your drums, you will feel them bottoming out (but what's the point of clubbing electronic drums?)

IMPORTANT: The 12" pads stick sound & feel are much more pleasing to the ear (without the module's sound) than the 10" pad is.

As stated elsewhere, they are NOT as quiet as a mesh head, but these large targets allow me to practice closer to real drum kit technique than smaller pads.
Besides ... show me a REAL drum that feels as good as a Mesh head drum or pad.

Truthfully, I can more closley approximate a real drum feel with these 12" pads than I can with a V drum (though I love being able to play above my level of technique with that springy mesh head rebound, consistent across all of the drums)
And,I'm told a conversion to a mesh head is fairly easy(?)

I love my investment in the DM10X kit, I replaced both 10" pads with 12"'s.

I bought this kit to learn to play the drums. I bought the DM10 Pro kit with the Surge Cymbals and it is legit! I was able to unbox it and start using the drum brain. Almost no learning curve, it is super easy to figure out and has a ton of customization. The toms and cymbals sound and feel just like acoustic kits that I've messed around on. I recommend this kit to beginners and pros! I dig it!

I have only one week with the DM10X, but I felt at times that there are sounds that blend in some tom, suddenly the sound associated sounds rim.
I hope to get a good calibration between the trigger and sensitivity, but this takes time.
Preprogrammed kits have a lot of variety of sounds, but for someone used to playing acoustic, the frustration is not finding any acoustic drum simulating a pre-programmed from the beginning; this is a marketing mistake. For now do not know if I would recommend it, hopefully change your mind.
