OVERVIEW

This expanded e-kit combines advanced features and great sound.

The DM7X 6-Piece by Alesis has it all. This kit serves up plenty of drums and cymbals, an intuitive module with hundreds of sounds, and ties it all together with a preassembled rack that will have you playing in minutes. In addition to the low-noise Stealth Kick 2 compact trigger pad, the DM7X 6-Piece drum set features ultra-quiet rubber drum and cymbal pads, making it the ideal choice for professional drummers who want an advanced electronic kit for quiet practice. The appeal doesn't stop there. The DM7X Kit is an excellent choice for any electronic percussionist, whether you're just starting out, or looking to upgrade to a higher-quality kit with a professional module.

The DM7X module is filled with sounds-and surprises. The backlit LCD screen makes navigation a breeze. Drum and cymbal buttons are arranged to resemble the layout of a traditional kit, so it's simple to assign sounds and create kits quickly. The DM7X comes complete with 40 classic and modern ready-to-play kits. Easily tweak any existing kit, or create your own using the 385 superior drum, cymbal, and percussion sounds included in the DM7X module.

Great as they are, sounds are just the beginning. Inside the DM7X module you'll also find valuable extras. The built-in learning features, sixty play-along music tracks, and an onboard metronome allow you to improve your skills. There is even an advanced sequencer and a performance recorder to expand your music-making potential. In addition to the USB MIDI connection for use with computers and mobile devices, the DM7X module also offers up some old school MIDI In and Out jacks so you can hook up to your favorite MIDI-equipped drum machine, sound module or other audio gear. There is a headphone jack for private practice, plus stereo outs to connect to a PA system, amplifier, or recording console. The stereo aux input allows you to jam along to your favorite tracks on your CD or MP3 player.

The DM7X Kit comes with more drums, more sounds, and more features than any other kit in its class. Start counting with five advanced design 8" dual-zone drum pads-four toms plus the snare. Next, add in an assortment of four 10" cymbal pads with choke: hi-hat, ride, and two crash cymbals. Finally, top it all off with the Stealth Kick 2 compact kick trigger pad, paired with the chain-driven Pro X Kick pedal. The preassembled fold-out stand makes it easy to get everything in place so that you can start playing quickly and easily.

Have had the kit for two weeks and it's more than I expected. Always played acoustic up til now.
Pre-assembled rack is a plus. Unit seems well made with quality materials. If you have experience setting up a kit, the rest of the assembly comes pretty easily.
Sound thru headphones is quite good. Have not yet connected to an amp or external speakers.
Connect a laptop or Ipod and play along to anything in your collection
Positioning the cymbals, especially hi-hat, takes some trial and error to find the best playing positions. I'm still working on this.
Heads are responsive, similar to some practice pads. 8" pads make you focus on the hitting area, which is a good thing
I was concerned about the unique kick pad but that unit is a big plus. Pedal is provided and the pad is more responsive than I thought it would be.
Hi-hat pedal seems to require a bit more pressure than what you may be used to with a regular stand but this may be part of the learning process with an E-set
Only been 2 weeks but so far I'm quite satisfied with the kit. Can practice without disturbing others and still get a good sound thru the phones.

Right off the bat, I was greeted with trouble. Multiple plastic joints holding the rack together were broken when the kit arrived. In Alesis' defense, they were quick to respond and send replacement parts.
However, that's just the beginning. Every time I sit down to play, I receive terrible two different feedback sounds that I have narrowed to both the headphone jack and aux in jack. (I use Beats headphones and have never had trouble with feedback using them with any other devices - the same with the aux cord.) I have tried multiple ways to get rid of the feedback, but nothing works.
Furthermore, the kit is not solidly built at all. All of the joints will move causing the entire kit to shift, no matter how much they're tightened. The heads and rack move just by playing on them.
Most recently, the Stealthkick 2 that comes with the kit has completely stopped responding. I have contacted Alesis over a month ago and haven't heard from them regarding this issue. Bottom line - avoid this kit and, if possible, this brand. I regret this purchase entirely.

Comments about Alesis DM7X Six-Piece Electronic Drumset:

I saw comments about difficulty in setup - I was able to start playing within 45 minutes. Still working on getting the pads where I want them. Agree with other comments - the instructions are vague and leave a lot to figure out on your own. But overall, I am very impressed. The kit holds up well, pads are responsive, the sound isn't bad - it won't fool anyone into thinking it's acoustic, but the kits still sound great. I agree that it's a bummer trying to figure out kits based on a number, the display needs to be reworked so descriptions can be shown. But overall, I am loving this kit so far.
One more thing...all the pics of the kit don't show the snakes' nest of cords that stick out everywhere. Still trying to figure out how to make it look neat.

Comments about Alesis DM7X Six-Piece Electronic Drumset:

I bought the Alesis DM7X because at one point I'm going to be moving to an apartment and I can't take my acoustic kit with me. It's pretty quiet and low profile.

As far as the pads and the cymbals, those are all pretty good. The chokes on the cymbals can be hard to get used to, but they work. All the drum pads have a nice bounce and they're super responsive. Rim hits work well

Some bad things: Some of the cymbal sounds are just bad, especially the hi-hat. For some reason the hi-hat pedal likes to mess up sometimes unless I've got my foot all the way up the pedal. Set up is kind of awkward. I can't get it to feel just right.

Some good things: Sturdy rack. Sturdy everything. The bass pedal is long enough for me to do some good heel toe, which I can't even do on my DW2000s I have on my acoustic kit. The loops that you can play along with are decent, good for just playing around and getting new patterns.

Overall, 4/5, would recommend. A nice kit for practicing or jamming in places where you can't have a full acoustic set

Comments about Alesis DM7X Six-Piece Electronic Drumset:

Bought this to keep up drumming skills. I like almost everything about this kit. The sounds are incredible and pad bounce and response are amazing. The only thing Alexis needs to work on is hi what pedal. As in other reviews my pedal is sometimes hit and miss. Would be nice if this kit came with extra bass drum pedal and pad. Would make great double bass. For the price of this set I am very happy. I played a roland down at the music store and this set is every thing and more than that set at half the price. I am using this with the Alexis drum amp I purchased a few months back. The sound is great. Love the user kits where you can set.your own kit up. It's all good. Thanks musicians friend for another good buy.

Comments about Alesis DM7X Six-Piece Electronic Drumset:

I could not be more pleased with these. I poo-pooed e-drums for years. Lately I've grown tired of packing and unpacking, moving, up stairs... You get the picture.

I bought these so I could leave my show drums packed up and ready to go, and still be able to practice at home (without disturbing my family) anytime I want to. Also, it has the same set up, sans a couple cymbals, that my show set has. I am working with Musicians Friend to get a second bass pedal, as I do use double pedal.

The set was easy to put together. Everything was clearly labeled or marked. Of course it took a bit to get it set up for me, but that was a given.

I am amazed and the number of sounds you can get. Since I am only using it for practice (okay, I played with the sounds) I am keeping a basic setting.

I am easily able to plug music in that I must learn, or practice, and have control of the volumes for each.

The only negative is the operator manual. It's not all that clear, but I am getting buy.

This product is very good. I find its versatility to be impressive. I love having several different kits in one and being able to switch on the fly if needed. The only real gripe that I would have is the pedal for the hi-hat is not as responsive as I would like for it to be. Otherwise it's a very nice set. Would recommmend it for beginners and those who need a quieter drum set.
