Just okay.

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

I've always played acoustic drums and feel that playing an electronic drum set is borderline sacrilegious - that being said, I live in an apartment complex and need something that doesn't disturb my neighbors. As far as this set goes, it's just "okay." The bass pad is not nearly as sensitive as it should be (even with the sensitivity cranked all the way up), and these are in no way even remotely close to playing acoustic drums. Maybe that's just the territory, but it needs to be said. In retrospect, this was a decent investment with very very little return. However, I'm keeping them.

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

I'm actually a guitarist, but have a son interested in drums and I'm not ready to fill my house with the sound of an acoustic kit. I have played a ton of electric kits over the years, so I know what to expect in a high end electronic kit and what you get out of a introductory kit. I think for the price this is an excellent set. It comes with everything you need out of the box minus the drum throne. It has a ton of decent sounds.

Great selection of sounds
Easy to load your own sounds
Fun to play along with included songs
Choke-able cymbals
Everything included (kick pedal, hi-hat pedal, sticks)
Durable stand and pads

Snare sensitivity not high enough. Sounds robotic on fast rolls.
Hi-hat is opened or closed no way to mic something between the two.
Cymbals are a little quite on most kids and a basic "volume"attribute doesn't appear to be available for edit.

Overall, I did not deduct for these cons because for the price I would have expected even less. Even kits in the thousands aren't perfect and I got an extra nice discount on these by calling MF over the phone. I would highly recommend this to not just beginners, but anyone who isn't playing professionally who wants a fun affordable kit for practice or home recording.

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

this is a great starter/intermediate ekit. it was my first e kit in 18 years and I love it. I use it for practice with the band in studio one artist where we are all direct in and put through headphones or in ears, and recording my own music, I can use my own samples via midi perfectly fine when set up properly.

the pads are very adequate but work just fine. my first gripe is that I think I broke a connection somewhere around the rim of the snare pad after only a few hours. I'm a heavy hitter and a rimshot enthusiast. the only reason I think that is is because I'm now getting a cross talk on every snare hit through the cymbals and or toms. it wasn't there for the first few days of playing.

my second and last gripe is the rack....

part one:

while it IS an updated/revamped rack system from alesis, it is still prone to slipping and misalignment after a few minutes/hours of playing. to extend and olive branch, the pads/cymbals do not move .. (much) , but the rack itself needs to have memory clamps added or some way of locking positions. the legs tend to "lean" forward and back ward all the time and its quite frustrating especially when moving or reassembling the system.

part two:

the rack needs metal clamps. the ones supplies are plastic. while I have yet to break or strip one - I'm still not looking forward to it. after owning and using a pearl icon, there is no comparison. the hardware (nuts andbolts) like to come loose after a short period of time and that's also no fun.

in conclusion,it is a great set up for entry level / intermediate players looking for quiet /versatile electronic solutions. it just needs a few things buttoned up but It has yet to be a major disappointment.

Comments about Alesis Forge 8-Piece Electronic Drum Kit:

After years of playing guitar and bass, and wanting to write/record my own music in its entirety I decided it's time to learn to play drums. I had my eye on this kit, and a well-timed sale was enough to make me pull the trigger. I don't regret it, this kit plays well, and has plenty of good sounds built in. Once I am ready to record, I can hook it up to Logic Pro X via USB and get a good MIDI beat down to work with.
