The Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit combines RealHead drum pads, MIDI software, and DMPad Cymbals all while using the power of a PC or Mac computer. USB/MIDI for Hardware and Software The Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit has a TriggeriO interface that plugs directly into your computer. The system is compatible to use with software such as BFD, Reason, or Toontrack. MIDI compatible, there is the option to track a performance only to go back and tweak it later on the Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit.RealHead Drum Pads This electronic drum kit uses 8 mylar drum pads for a traditional, acoustic feel. With acoustic-dampening foam and removable rubber sleeves on the triple-flanged counterhoops, the acoustic sounds are greatly diminished. This set™s snare and toms are dual-zone so that the snares can produce rim shots and rim clicks and the toms can create sounds like chimes, cymbals, and cowbells. There is also a RealHead Kick Stand that is compatible with any standard single or double pedal. All of the drumheads are easily tunable with a standard drum key.DMPad Cymbals The Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit includes a hi-hat, crash, and dual-zone ride cymbal. With a rubberized surface, the acoustic stick-on-pad sound is greatly reduced so the desired tonal qualities can shine through.Alesis StealthRack The standard 1-1/2 metal tubing of this rack securely supports all of this set™s components. All necessary clamps, cables, and hardware are included. It is easy to add on more drums or cymbals to this rack as you expand your set. For an easy to play electronic drum set that uses the power of your computer, plug in the Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit.

Realistic feel meets sonic and creative flexibility in the USB Studio Drum Kit.

Comments about Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit:

Although the drum pads are not very good and the hi hat has very poor response, the cymbals are much better quality. The drums are very noisy and do not have good stick response at all. It's good to start with if you want to build on it.Pros:-Good price-Good cymbalsCons:-Bad trigger I/O-Bad Hi hat-Bad Kick drum-Really bad snare (get a mesh one w/ a "real" stand)

Comments about Alesis USB Studio Drum Kit:

The thing you have to realize about this kit is that the heads DO take a little getting used to. Once you do though, they are pretty close to actual heads. I put a REMO drum head on my "snare pad," and there was actually a little better response. You can get a mesh head replacement kit for the Alesis pads. I'm not sure how much they cost, but I hear it's not too expensive. I love that the heads are ALL DOUBLE TRIGGER> This is great is you want to add a cowbell on a toms rim or an extra China or splash cymbal. The trigger I/O needs to be tweaked a lot, but you can get your sensitivity, crosstalk and other parameters adjusted to your playing style. Personally I am using a Boss/Roland DR 880 for my sound source, since the trigger I/O doesn't have any sounds. It sounds great! My drummer used this setup live and it was nice to him. He stopped using it though because it took too long to set up. This kit is perfect for a studio, since you don't have to move it around. I gave this kit a 5 because you have so much versatility, being able to use ANY sound source, through MIDI or USB to hook up with your computer and use almost any drum software. The cymbals have a nice feel to them and I especially love the triple zone ride and crash cymbal, both with the CHOKE feature on them. Hey I know I'm writing this review after Musicians Friend stopped selling these but I know Alesis will come out with another USB studio kit that will have some improvements on what already is a great kit! They sure give you a plethora of features on this kit. Stay tuned to MF to see what is coming up next in the Alesis USB line. If you can find one of these USB Studio Kits, it's worth it. Just be prepared to work with the Trigger I/O quite a bit. Read the user manual as well as the quick start guide. Good luck. Thanks for reading.
