...The Aquarian Focus X head wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I originally had a Remo Ambassador Coated on my snare and I loved the brightness of it but the ring was an issue and I wanted an alternative to conventional muffling, so I bought the Focus X. Don't get me wrong, this is a quality head, but the head sacrifices brightness for tonal control in the extreme. I was looking for a better balance. So I took the head off, and cut out the vented ring underneath the head and now my snare sounds perfect. This is a great head, but if you're not into that warm, punchy snare sound, then you might end up doing the same as I did. Hope this helps you guys.

read good reviews on it, only thing my local shop had so i picked it up. had it about 2 weeks total. popped it on, tuned/tightened it up and it sounded awful. completely dry, just sounds like you're hitting a rug. absolutely no body behind it. played my first gig with it, and i like to think i don't hit too heavy, but by the end of the show there were too many dents on the head to count. it never stayed in tune the entire time i owned it and it was destroyed after gig 1. terribly disappointed.

Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
This is one great head! It can be left loose to get a nice, beefy sound, or tuned up high to get a great, funky sound. The head stays responsive in a wide range of tuning, and the vented muffle on the under-side keeps the head from ringing too much, but it doesn't choke the sound out. Also, this thing is DURABLE! I can hit pretty hard, and I practice for hours every day. This head takes the beating, stays in tune, and doesn't lose its coating like other heads from other companies. Definitely a worthwhile purchase!
Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
This head will last a long time. It's the best my snare has ever sounded!
Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
The Aquarian Focus X batter head gave my already powerful COB Rogers Dyna-Sonic snare even more power without that anoying ring. I'll be trying out more Aquarian heads on my Rogers toms, Top of the line product. Not one mark on the tough coating.
Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
Great response! Great sound live with or without mics and in the studio. Enough power for rock and anything else that you love to play. Only snare head I buy.
Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
The Aquarian Focus-X Texture-Coated drumhead is my go to drumhead for snare. The vented ring underneath takes out just enough over-ring to make it work wonders in the studio, but it equally sings out in live situations as well. No more need for rings that fly off or moongel that can eventually buzz or the dreaded duct tape which ruins heads! And this head is very durable, tunes easily, has great tone and lasts a long time. I've yet to break an Aquarian Texture-Coated Focus-X snare head. Then again, I'm not really a heavy hitter. I use Vic Firth 5A and their AJ3, AJ4 and AJ5 sticks. Now Aquarian does have a power dot version of this drumhead for those who like to pummel their drums into submission. But for me, these heads are perfect. I used to play Remo Ambassadors and Evans GI coated heads, but Aquarians to me just work better. One more point to mention. Last year, I had ordered a thin snare bottom head, and it got damaged from shipping. So I called Aquarian about this, and I was transferred directly to Roy Burns himself who was extremely nice, and he had Aquarian send out a brand new snare bottom head at no charge. Most times, I'm placed on hold forever and deal with people whose job it is to be rude or to say no, but that's not the case with Aquarian. They treat their customers right.

Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
I've been using this head for about two months. I have a pretty aggressive style, and had previously only used two-ply drum heads. I was worried about the head popping quickly based on past experience w/ one-ply heads, but so far it is holding up admirably. I only took .5 off the quality score because the coating began to chip after my bassist started slamming on it. Case in point: If you play like an ape and really lay into your heads (aka bad technique), this might not be the head for you. But if your technique is good, it's perfect; a very durable head.Sound wise, it is equally impressive. It has a bright, one-ply sound, but the vented muffle ring on inside of the head takes care of 90% of the hi-end ring. It's the perfect head. Thanks Aquarian! :)
Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
This is a very good snare head if you like a very dry sound to your snare without a lot of overtones (which I do). I use it on my ludwig epic series snare and it is very punchy when tuned lower and has a great crack when tuned higher. My fave so far but I am still experimenting with different heads.
Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
This head will give ANY snare a great sound! The only problem being that it doesn't last too long. I had mine on my Black Panther 14x6.5 Walnut snare for 1 month and then it split straight across the middle. Right before it broke I happened to have said, "I've never had a problem with my Aquarian Heads!" Oh the irony.
Comments about Aquarian Focus-X Snare Drumhead:
This head is by far my favorite snare head I have ever used. I put it on an old piece of crap pearl forum series steel snare when I first used them and it made that thing sound perfect. And it was so easy to tune. I took it of the pearl to put on my Gretsch Catalina maple snare, and it is the exact snare sound I have always been looking for. Mine just broke after about 3 years of playing on it, and now that I'm looking at the price of them, it can't get any better. Ill love Aquarians for the rest of my life.
