Saw these on a buddy's kit a few years ago and tried them out, have been hooked ever since. I use them on ALL of my drums. As someone who regularly sells used gear, they are an irreplaceable accessory. Takes all the overtone and ring out of the drums. Even a cheap kit with cheap heads can sound good with one of these babies. I use them on everything from Sound Percussion up to DW. Can't say enough good things, definitely buy them if you don't have some. You will kick yourself for waiting so long to get them.

I have tried the other brands and like Evans E-rings also, but all things Aquarian are good quality so I stick with these. Not a fan of Remo-s, they are too lightweight and cause a buzz on the drumhead.

In sum, no matter what the application (live, studio, practice) and no matter what drum (cheap to expensive), these rings are a great investment.

I do work professionally in music, primarily as a producer and recording engineer, but also as a musician. I think these are very effective. Taking an overly "ringy" head and easily taming it. While they work great, it might be a little too much in some cases.

I have a serious suggestion, and that is that a "graded" approach might make more sense. What I mean by that is that the rings are all 1" strips. On my 16" Tom, this is the perfect amount of damping. On my 14" Snare, it's nice and tight, maybe a tad too tight in some cases, but good. On my 12" Tom, its starting to be a bit much on the damping, and on my 10" tom is heavily damped. Because the ring width doesn't change, it makes your drums progressively more damped as they get smaller in size. In a studio setting, that can be problematic. It would be very wise if they made a set with maybe a 1/4" ring for 10" toms, a 1/2" ring for 12" toms, a 3/4" ring for 14" toms/snares, and a 1" ring for large drums. That way, the amount of damping would be more consistent across the kit.

I will keep these and continue to use them, but over time I will make adjustments as I just noted in order to have my kit finely tuned for recording in the studio

I bought these to lessen the overtones and they work well, but I also elected to buy the mini EMADS by Evans. I use the EMADS on my bottom heads stretched all the way out. With both my drums sound awesome with a nice flatter sound and 0 overtones. Good luck!

I like e to tune my drums wide open with lots of ring. This makes the audio engineer's job hard. By placing the studio rings on the head, the unwanted frequencies are reduced without loosing too much tone, and the drums sound better when close miked.

All drummers need these rings; beginner or recording artist. The snare pops to life. Toms get a nice tone like they deserve. I've never heard a floor tom sound so good. And I was really sceptical about that but completely amazed!i am now a believer. You will not be disappointed.

Threw these on my stock heads that came with my new gretsch kit since I'm not real sure what heads I want yet and because I wanted to at least get a little use out of the stockers. These things take out all of the ring, if that's what you're looking for then get them. It is a little more than I really wanted, but overall these things made the kit sound way better.

These definitely cut down on ring, and are easy to use. Just throw them on your drum and done. They take a little too much ring out for me, for a live setting, but would be great for recording or studio work.

After tuning kit, I was still getting more over tone than what I wanted. These helped a lot. Plus, depending on the application i.e playing in different venues or in the studio, you only need to remove them if they are not appropriate.

                          Simple Fix

Comments about Aquarian Studio Rings Set #2 - 10",12",14",16":

Get two sets. For the money they are great but if you put a creased bend in one you'll regret it. You can quickly adjust your sound by simply removing the ring, no retunning required. If you are experienced with drunning you know your sound means everything. These offer a fast and reliable solution to overing.
Very Simple To apply and they stay put. They look flimsy and cheap but work great. For transporting from one gig to the next just use an old head box..
Light weight plastic but hold up well.
For the cost and what they offer, you could not ask for more. I low tech fix for a very common problem for drummers. If your a drummer you know things can add up in overall cost per kit. I bought expensive drum dials and torques keys to get my sound right. I used gel pads but never liked them. From venue to venue the sound changes. These are simpe and fast to use.
