Comments about Aquarian TC Super Kick I Drumhead:
I bought this head as a stock replacement on a Sound Percussion kit. The old one was slappy, cheap feeling, and didn't project well. This Aquarian head solved all of those problems (and more!). Gave my bass drum a very punchy, warm sound, and feels much better to lay the pedal into on fast passages. The muffling ring also reduced the amount of snare buzz when striking the bass drum, which is nice. All in all, great value. Could be used in many styles.
Comments about Aquarian TC Super Kick I Drumhead:
I bought an Aquarian Force 1 Bass Drum Batter Head from this site, to upgrade a cheap bass drum. This was after being happy with Aquarian Response 2 batter heads on toms, and Hi-Energy batter head for snare. Those were recommended to me by a local music store (over Remo Pinstripes and Evans Hydraulic). I followed the tuning recommendationa found on the Aquarian Drumheads website. I am also using a Force 2 Resonant Head with this Superkick 1 batter/beater (as Aquarian recommends for metal music). These made the low-priced (Saltbox brand!) bass drum sound louder and give it a nice deep=sounding low end punch. My only problem with the Super Kick One batter head was that it was hard to tune, on account of it being so dry-sounding. It has a muffling ring feature on the underside of it. I think I got it right after a while, but I would recommend a drum head tension-type tuning dial to tune these. I recommend the Aquarian TC Super Kick 1 Bass Drumhead for anyone wanting to upgrade a cheap drumset, to produce a louder and fatter low end bass drum sound. To get the volume and punch, you also need a front resonant head with a center-offset hole in it. I don't know how this would sound on a truly professional drumset; prabably really good but may sound dryer than be Evans or Remos would work better on those. (I just don't know.) My set is made of all poplar wood, rather than more expensive maple, mahagony, or even birch woods. This wood is suipposed to have a sound similar to birch and mahogany -- sort of deep but a little ringy too. I play these in a rock/sometimes country-ish/heavy metal band, and it seems to cut through kind of good, but also sonds good on quieter passages -- for a cheap drumset. I use to own a 1968 vintage Ludwig drum set, and with the upgrades, the cheap set sounds similar to those -- which I am saying as a complement.
