After extensive review, the results are in: Derek Roddy approved!

This Derek Roddy A21 Signature Edition Kick Pedal with Electronic Kit has an extra long footboard for increased power and control. It takes the A21 beater bracket and incorporates ideas from Derek and his web forum that make the pedals more user friendly, such as drum key adjustments for the beater angle and the Variable Drive Lever. The choice to locate posts on the base plate prevent the need to change the settings for the drum beater and Electronic Kit detonator angles. The base plates are smooth with the distinctive design applied by laser which provides a tactile surface. Derek Roddy approvingly road tested and evaluated the new bass drum pedal, and now Axis is proud to offer it as his signature pedal.

Derek Roddy is acclaimed as an accomplished clinician and educator, and is expert in any drumming style including Extreme and Modern Metal, Jazz, Blues and Rock.

The A21 kick drum pedals have all the performance features of the Axis pedals with increased magnitude. The A21 was designed to accelerate the beater into the bass drum with greater force and velocity, and to incorporate the Variable Drive Lever for greater adjustability.

The A21° power forward beater angle has been integrated into the beater bracket to maximize the beater impact. The Variable Drive Lever settings farther forward produce a deeper footboard travel (more power), while settings aft ward result in increased speed.

Axis Electronic Kit
The EKIT is truly an Axis Percussion innovation. Now you can trigger your kick drum without the use of unreliable external acoustic kick drum triggers. Totally redesigned, this unique mechanical trigger is mounted onto this kick drum pedal and lets you choose the exact moment and strength of your acoustic triggering. No more cross talk, double triggering, duct tape, or trigger fatigue.

Comments about Axis Derek Roddy Signature Edition A21 Single Bass Drum Pedal:

I have tried a huge number of pedals in my nearly 50 years of playing drums. I can do things effortlessly with Axis Pedals that were impossible for me on any other pedal. The Derek Roddy signature pedal takes the original Axis and has simple yet important improvements. No more hex screws, you can use a drum key for all adjustments. Pedal stops to attach to the hoop exactly the same way every time and the installation of the eKit. You could buy the regular Axis and add the eKit and you basically have 98% of this pedal. The beater angle is slightly different, 21 degrees, hence the name Laser 21. However positioning and tensioning are nearly infinite to achieve total comfort. Be prepared to experiment with a lot of settings to find what works best for you. The eKit is an ingenious trigger and allows you to maintain a "normal" bass drum head setup and you can even mic regular plus have the trigger. I personally like triggers to get that consistent sound between my 2 kicks and avoid wasted time by inexperienced sound men. The sound is perfect every time and for fast double bass playing all the notes are articulate and clear in a live performance vs getting that low end hum and no definition. I am not crazy about the Axis beaters. Once you are used to these pedals it should greatly improve the ease with which to play intricate kick patterns. If you play heel-toe technique, well that's what these pedals were made for. The only other pedal that compares to this one would be the Pearl Demon Drive but that does not include the trigger. Axis is expensive but if you can afford it, in my opinion it is the best pedal on the market.

        Awesome pedals

Comments about Axis Derek Roddy Signature Edition A21 Single Bass Drum Pedal:

        A fantastic pedal.
I have a pair of these and they are an amazing pedal. They're a bit pricey but they are worth every penny. They do take a little bit to get use to but once you start getting the feel for them you'll love them. I did replace the beaters they came with Gibraltar beaters for a bit more a heavy feel but these pedals are very fast.
