I'm the same guy who wrote the review below titled "Not What I Expected"

Minutes after writing that scathing review, I called Axis explaining the problem with the upper-tube slipping. The guy I talked to was one of the co-owners—I had no idea at the time. Without question, he said he'll fashion a memorylock for the upper-tube for me and ship it out free of charge. When I receieved it, it didn't fit. The next day, I called Axis and spoke to the co-owner again and let him know the problem with the memorylock. He asked me to send out my upper-tube and the memorylock together so he could modify the lock. A week later, I got them both along with a free t-shirt. The stand works like a charm now, no slipping at all!

Axis is a small company out in Cali. I still am blown away by their customer service. Because of this, I reccomend their products to EVERYONE. If you have an issue, call them and let them know!

Not What I Expected

| Review By: Jeff-GYhYW | 1 month, 1 week ago

Features:
Quality:

Well built with quality metal.

Value:

It's pretty expensive for what it does.

Overall:

Praises

  • Looks slick as hell
  • Metal alloy and guage used in design makes it very sturdy
  • Large, smooth footboard without a heel-plate; very easy to do heel splashes
  • Independently swiveling legs; you can place them anywhere without having to move the whole stand
  • Breaks down compactly
  • Simple design

Complaints

  • No memory locks
  • Complex and heavy hi-hat clutch
  • No felts provided with hi-hat clutch
  • One-screw secures telescoping tubes

The first time I used this stand was at a show. During the first song, the distance between the top and bottom hats grew to about about a foot; the inner-tube was slipping. This is because the inner-tube is secured to the outter-tube (main shaft) with one screw. I couldn't believe it when I realized this. For that much money, I expect intellegent engineering. Why did Axis think one screw would suffice? Three screws would offer much better support, but that still would probably slip.

I sold my DW 5000 hi hat stand for this thing. All DW hi-hat stands use a collar which compresses the entire innter-tube 360º, and on top of that lies a memory-lock, which, is another collar. The inner-tubes never slipped on me and I owned it for 7 years.

Another complaint: the clutch is unecessarily complex and heavy. There is a tilter for the top hat... honestly, who would use that? And, if you like to have a little play in the top cymbal to it crashes smoothly, then the bottom part of the clutch, which, does not come with a felt, will hit the bottom-side of the top-hat when you open the hats creating a dull, "ding". Obviously, this can be fixed by adding a felt. But, for $270, I expect it to come with felts at the very least.

Complaints aside, this is a supieror stand. It is very sturdy and sharp-looking. Three legs support the whole stand and they swivle independelty from the main shaft, so placing the legs to make room for other stands and pedals is easy and convenient. Also, the stand breaks down more compactly than any hi-hat stand I've ever had.

The reason why I bought this is the footboard and the chainless direct-drive (as they call it). I have big feet, so my toes would always hit the chain of the DW 5000; my toes don't come near the the end of the board now. And for that, I am grateful.

I don't regret my purchase, but I am a little heated that I have to modify a $270 hi-hat stand so it can function reliably. I'm going to call Axis today and complain and see if they will do anything for me, like, make me a collar and a memory lock.

I love all of my AXIS products

Features:

Everything is great. I just wich AXIS would produce a "drop-clutch" for their high-hat stands and make some kind of refurbishing kits or at least replacement hardware for their products.

Quality:

Super cool looks. I've received many compliments from people (drummers and non) just checking them out

Value:

Great value. The LHH was very reasonably priced, unlike they are with their pedals and their pedal case.

Overall:

This is my 2nd AXIS LHH, and I also own a set of AL-2 pedals. My other LHH is the older model with different style leg bracing. This new model has double bracing which only makes it look cooler than the older model, since the older model didn't need any additional bracing in my opinion. Other than the bracing, the 2 stands are identical.

what i liked were the looks, quality, very quiet no noise, made my cheaper cymbals sound a little better with the feltless design, 2 year warranty.   What i did not like was no footboard hight adjust, cymbal tilters are plastic when they should be metal and rubber.

Awesome hi- hat! Very sensitive and quiet and goes perfect with an Axis longboard pedal. Longboards take some getting used to, but i will never go back to regular pedals.
