First off, this pedal is not made for everyone. It sits in its own category, not just some other pedal on the market. Therefore making it extremely different. It is the lightest pedal i have ever laid my foot on, no doubt about that. Theres also that rumor that it doesnt get enough power? That is complete bull. If you use triggers on your bass drums, no pedal can top this one. If you dont(like me) youll stillbe fine. What people dont understand about these pedals is the fact that it takes time to get used to them. it took me almost 6 weeks to get the right power to quickness ratio down. Once you establish this, it becomes easier to make harder contact with the bass drum. Kids are to ambitious and quickly return this pedal, like some of the kids below this review. Give the pedal time to adjust to your foot and your speed. And everything will start falling into place. Also, the rumor about the sonic hammers it comes with is partially true. people say they come loose and break easily, etc. AXIS HAS THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE PLANET. No doubt about it. My sonic beaters never came loose, but they did break about 4 weeks in. like literally snapped in half within 5 mintues of each other. both of them. gone. i immediately called the axis number (go to their website), and said the following: "hey my sonic hammers just broke, can i get replacements through this number?" he said "yeah man no problem, the ones that most online stores stock them with are the lowest type. I can upgrade you to the ones that are twice as strong, there virtually indestructable. i was like aight man that sounds good. He asked for my address, and they came in 5 days. No shipping charges, no warranty bull crap, he just simply hooked me up. This is what Axis is about. Im a customer for life. To any of you looking to buy this pedal, my word of advise, is give yourself time to adjust with them, at that point, no other pedal can come close to this thing.

I just bought this pedal about a week ago, and I'm looking to sell it. I originally had a DW 5000, and I wish I would've stuck with it. The Axis isn't that powerful and is too lightweight for me. This pedal was very disappointing.

Good Choice for Drummers with Big Feet

By Jeff-GYhYW

Comments about Axis Longboard A Single Bass Drum Pedal:

You are going to read nothing but accolades about this pedal. So, I'll keep my review brief. Here are the reasons why it's such a great pedalIt doesn't have a heel plate, so, it can accomodate my large and wide feet. It's heavy and durableIt has a direct drive, so, the response is fastIt has a smooth foot-board
I need to stress how important it is to have this pedal if you have big feet. I had DW 5000s before this, and they were just too small.

If you want to stand out, buy this and learn how to use it!

Comments about Axis Longboard A Single Bass Drum Pedal:

Overall the pedal seems incredibly sturdy and nothing has moved without me adjusting it. It took me a day or so to get the heel-toe technique down, and it'll probably take me a few weeks to be able to comfortably incorporate heel-toe kicks into my drum parts. If you've never used a long board I wouldn't recommend buying this pedal the day before a show--give yourself some time to adjust.
I'd been looking for a shaft-driven long board pedal and ended up going with this one because it seemed like the best value based on the features. Some people with smaller feet may be able to get away with using conventional short board pedals for heel-toe kick patterns, but as someone who wears size 11 shoes I need something like the Axis A-L.
After ordering it I read some bad reviews regarding the "Sonic Hammer" that this pedal is equipped with, but I just received my pedal and it looks like they've updated the design and strengthened some of the weak points. For example, in the picture it shows a round thumb screw that adjusts the beater angle (a known point of failure after heavy use), but mine has a heavier-duty wing nut instead.
The only other pedal that compares to this is the Trick Drums Big Foot, which costs significantly more. I haven't had a chance to try that one, but both pedals offer very similar features. This pedal is a steal.

FAST! RESPONSIVE! NUMBER 1!

Comments about Axis Longboard A Single Bass Drum Pedal:

Im a guy who likes exploring different options before I settle with one thing. I have owned the Demon Drives, owned Iron Cobras, and Pearl Eliminators, and this pedal by far is the easiest to adjust and the easiest to understand. It can go from powerful hits full of leverage to a fast smooth hit that will rebound with insane speed. Not only its this pedal amazing for blazing single strokes but the double strokes come out with ease due to the lengthened footboard. The possibilities are endless with this pedal. The variable drive lever is the greatest invention ever because it enables you to change the feeling of the pedal with a twist of your drum key. Not to mention, the pedal is very solid and aesthetically pleasing. Get this pedal guys! Its the best pedal IN THE WORLD.

SUPER PEDAL

By Rockin Jim

Comments about Axis Longboard A Single Bass Drum Pedal:

Well lets see I have owned these pedals for over a year now. Thought I would give a review. To start with if I would of given a review lets say a month or so after buying these I would of said stay clear of these. But these are high dollar high quality pedals they are not your run of the mill pedals. Mastering these takes sometime, but if you stick to it after 6 or 8 weeks you will start to here and feel the difference. You will play faster and better than you ever have. I did replace the sonic hammers with my beaters off of my old Iron cobras. Just liked the way feel better. This is the third set of pedals I have bought and I must say by far the best.

Old Dog New Tricks

By Dave-on-wave

Comments about Axis Longboard A Single Bass Drum Pedal:

Have 8 pedals..pearl eliminator is favorite & DW 9000 second. OK BIG FEET is my problem with heel toe and this pedal solves that problem as most are too short for my size 13 foot. The axis does require a different approach with old muscle memory habits. I do like the 'real estate', but the heel toe just isn't my thing & not as efficient as other double techniques. I still prefer " toe sliding " & have used Jared Faulk's "heel up, drop to toe" since the 70's for fast doubles and it is much less tiring & energy output.. Most drummers I know, one who toured with Skynard and a Nashville 1st call drummer for 25 years, still do not use heel toe.BUT for younger players especially for size 11 & up it would be great to learn at a young age. It is made pretty well but I doubt the spring would have lasted back when I was playing 6 nights a week club house band gig...perhaps it would have.My point is it is such a personal decision as to which pedal works best for you but is the most important gear decision. The kick is the heart beat of all styles of music..your foot will get you more gigs than the other 3 limbs so it is worth finding what works best for you. I highly recommend this pedal but trying others for sureto find the right feel for you to develop the best kik foot possible.

Well worth it.

By StudioMan88

Comments about Axis Longboard A Single Bass Drum Pedal:

The Axis Longboard. Well, this pedal will show you exactly how good your feet actually are; that is to say, how much of your bass work is you, and how much was your pedal. I used to have one for about... 4 years or so, and moved onto a new pedal due to an ankle injury. One thing I've noticed here is most people mention a learning curve. I never really notice a LARGE difference between my old 5000 and the Longboard. More of the sensation that I was playing on someone else's kit. Perhaps it's because I had my old 5000 rigged to be really sensitive and unforgiving. Yes, Heel-Toe and Slide is much easier on the Longboard, as is Heel-Rocking. You may notice that the adjustments are finicky. Sometimes, you have to turn 1 bolt, then readjust 4 more to make up for it elsewhere. I suggest this to all Intermediate to Advance drummers, as it will help your stamina and precision ten-fold. I especially recommend it to anyone who plays Metal or, believe it or not, Latin.

Give it a chance.

By Pariah XIX

Comments about Axis Longboard A Single Bass Drum Pedal:

Best pedal I've played on for sure. Ive messed with DW's, Iron Cobra's, Pearls, all kinds, and this pedal bury's em all. It has tons of adjustment options to fit you and your playstyle. The pedal is also super light. If youre reading this you probably have heard this a million times already, but it takes time to get used to this pedal. I had to try different beaters and make a ton of adjustments before I found what I was looking for in this pedal. Once I did though, it was totally worth it. Oh, and if you play in socks like I do, you may wanna cover the Axis logo with tape or something, cause the logo will tear holes in your socks.

Axis Longboard A

By Josh-5ztc7

from Dayton, OH

Comments about Axis Longboard A Single Bass Drum Pedal:

My first impression of the Axis pedal was elegance and simplicity at it's finest. The Axis pedal has a feel that no other pedal in the world has. I have been using iron cobra's power glide for about 3 to 4 years now. I have my spring tension all the way up, with the beaters about 8 cm away from the bass drum head (45 degree angle). I do this so I can get the quickest rebound possible. I started noticing that I peak 16th notes at about 240 bpm with Iron Cobras and get tired after only a couple minutes. This prompted me to take a look at the axis pedals (most 'extreme metal' drummers use these). I knew from research that the axis pedal was a whole different beast before i received them, and would take some time to get used to. This was definatly the case. The axis has a totally different feel than any other pedal i've ever felt before. When I first set the pedals up, I automatically tightened the spring tension up as tight as it will go and moved the VDL (varible drive lever) to the middle. The first thing i noticed about the pedal is that it is a lot bigger than most pedals. Another thing is that it picks up on the slightest of foot movement. Within 2 tries I got the heel toe technique (both methods), which I have never been able to do consistantly. I actually didn't like the feel of these pedals at first at all, I actually hated it. Since I anticipated this reaction due to previous research, I remained patient. When playing 16th notes at 210 and up, you should really be using your ankle and no leg. If you watch any instructional video's by George Kollias, he demonstrates this very well. The axis pedal requires that you have this technique and is hard to play without it. If your leg technique is a straight power approach, it may take a while to get used to these pedals, because they do not respond to raw power the way a traditional pedal might. You may even hate these pedals! Don't get me wrong, I'm a power drummer so it's nothing that cant be easily overcome, with practice. If you want to use proper technique and push your drumming to new levels, i highly suggest using this pedal. It took me a good three weeks until I was fully comfortable on these pedals, and over a month until I was equal to or beyond the level of playing I was at on my previous pedals. I am now beyond any level of playing speed on my feet than I have ever been in my life. I'm thankful I took the time and effort to learn how to use these pedal, It is well worth it in the end. If you have an open mind, patients, and want speed with little effort, get these pedals now!
