Comments about Axis Xtra-Hat Hi-Hat Cymbal Stand Mount:
I bought this awesome little piece of engineering about 2 months ago and playing in a metal band (thedefeated.net?) I needed an X-Hat that would be stationary but wouldn't sound too choked and wouldn't come loose after a month of gigging and wouldn't cause 'keyholing' or other anomalous wear n tear. I gotta say, when I first saw Axis' X-Hat clutch, I was VERY skeptical about it's patented 'feltless' washer system but my instinct said you should try it. Two months later, Axis is now my favorite hardware company. I have their entire line from the XL-HH Longboard Hi-Hat stand, to their Longboard Double Kick Pedal, the Axis Hi-Hat Clutch, this Axis Xtra-Hat clutch, and more. I will say though, there is only one teeny tiny little gripe about this product. Though the design is amazing and the actual 'feltless' washer system does in fact work perfectly and amazingly better than any other metal, plastic, or acrylic washer system, the overal sound that the Xtra-hat gives off doesn't allow the cymbals to really 'sway' when bangin' on them half-open or open. It doesn't sound choked at all, it just doesn't move as much which is basically a 'feel' issue and can distinguish whether or not you like the 'feel' of the product as it indeed does not 'feel' like a metal, plastic, etc. washer system. That's nothing major at all though as the sound is still phenomenal. However, I use this Xtra-Hat as a 'closed hi-hat' in my current double kick pedal setup and it works better than any other X-Hat clutch on the market! If you want to really get an amazing piece of craftsmanship and a product that is reliable and works way better than anticipated without adding another pedal that has ridiculously long cabling, then this is the alternate hi-hat system for you. -- Chris Cortez
