Comments about Crush Drums & Percussion Sublime Maple 4-Piece Shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum:
I purchased this kit 6 months ago (22 kick, 10, 12, 16 toms, 14X5.5 snare, dark greeen sparkle) and I have been very pleased. It is gigged out several times each month and is holding up great. I was playing primarily on another all-maple kit with a 20" kick and it served me well in an environment that didn't require much voulume. I began playing with a band that needed a bit more depth than my 20" kick was able to provide. Remember this is a 22"X20" and the extra depth does provide warmth of tone, but it is a bit of a hassle to move upstairs or find cases for it. I'm using Evans EMAD with the wide damper ring, no internal muffling, and the stock resonant head with no port. Very full, many compliments.
The toms tune up nicely, and hold pitch well. I especially like the four-point tom mounts. I was skeptical at first given the price, but I am impressed. I'm using Evans EC2 on these and they are very consistent sounding. I passed on purchasing the 14" floor tom as most of the stages we play in the Nashville area are small pieces of real estate. If you have room on stage and in your budget I would think it would be a nice addition. The coolest part is how the locks integrate with the tom mounts to give a seamless appearance.
The snare is solid, no complaints. I would say it is the weak spot of the kit, but it is still excellent for the price. It will be the first thing I upgrade, possibly to another Crush product. The action is smooth and has nice details like the chevron throwoff and stick saver rims.
Overall, Crush has done a great job of finding the important things and sticking with them, keeping cost reasonable and quality strong. This is not a beginner's kit, nor is it a studio pros either. It is designed, I believe, for working-class drummers who play live. I would not be afraid to tour this kit; it is solid. Remember, I am only speaking of the drums. I do not have experience with the pedals or hardware other than the tome mounts.
