I bought this kit to replace my pdp lx kit, I'm very happy with the tone of the toms, and of course the kick sounds wonderful, I immediately put 2 4inch drum holes in the resonant head. The stock tom and snare heads are ridiculously horrid, please dont use them, at least throw the batters away! I did have problems with the snare, there was almost no snare bed!! this is terrible!! I tuned up the snare and gave it a whack and it buzzed and rattled like crazy! I took off both heads and filed the snare bed 2mm deep and sanded it smooth and put an evans hazy 300 and genera hd dry and it's one of the best snares I've heard in a while, but your average consumer wouldn't and shouldn't have to do that! Also the blueburst is kind of forest green looking in the lower light... which sucks for me.
This set is amazing the shells are really thick and heavy!!! i got the orange finish and i love the way it look in person. its orange and you can also see the wood design. i got a little upset when i found that my hoop for the bass drum, was a little chipped. and i haven't used it a lot. i love the 14x7 snare it gives it that louder sound. and it really heavy. i was a little disappointing with the resonant head of the bass drum where it it shows the ddrum logo. the rim for the head was smaller than a 24 inch and i cant tune the head properly. i think im going have to buy another head because i don't trust that head on this great kit. my last disappointment was one of my lugs from my bass drum was scratched and it is noticeable. overall this is a great set very nice.
This is one of the best kits i have ever played on. It's kick drum is giant and produces a full, deep tone. However, i have experienced that in order to get the best tone out of the kick, you must hit it HARD. so, if you are not a hard hitter, you might want to stick to smaller drums, but if you are a hard hitter, this will be the best sounding kick drum you have ever played. I have the aquarian super kick 2 on the batter and aquarian small hole regulator on the resonator side. The toms sound really deep. my rack tom sounds like a floor tom. i have evans g2 coated on mine. The snare is one of the best assets of this kit. It is great! the sound it produces is tight and it is a great snare. I have a remo emperor X on it, even though that's not my favorite, i just had one laying around. My only problem is that i am a 5 piece, one up two down kinda guy, and the only amx floor tom you can get is a 14". I prefer an 18" floor tom. But these drums are thick sounding enough to make up for no 18" so the 14" would do fine. all in all, this is the best kit for the money, hands down.
Great set, I have the white shell pack, it looks beautiful. The entire kit sounds great I placed new Evans heads on all drums. My only complaints were the plastic washers compared to metal washers. Also when I received this package one of the bass hoops was cracked completely through and had broken off. Although still usable, it was aggravating. All in all good set I recomend buying it.
I got this kit as a gift for myself X-mas this year (2007) and WOW! I was amazed by the quality and sound i got out of this kit, not to mention the black on white finish is absolutly gorgeous. There are so many custom features about this kit i dont even know where to start, from the custom inspired finishes to the extra deep bass drum. I was split between either loading the HEAVY price tag of a custom kit onto my credit card or a production line kit, honestly this kit is NO DIFFERENT from a custom drum kit.The 24" bass drum sounds so full and punchy. I played my first show with this kit about 5 weekends ago and I had so many complimets on the sound i got out of this kit. The bass was the only drum mic'd but let me tell you, I had absolutly no problem geting these drums to project. They filled the whole room no problem. The sweet spot is also very easy to find and it sounds amazing. This is just an all around good kit. The only problem I saw was trying to find a case big enough to fit a 24x20" bass drum. Buy this kit if you want an amazing sounding kit for hardly any cash. THIS IS A STEAL!!!you will not be dissapointed.
I got the orange set with 24" kick. What a pleasant surprise when I saw it. Very deep and rich looking. Much better than the pictures. I get more compliments than I ever have. Suggestions: Put Evans EC2 heads on toms, EC2 reverse dot on snare. For the kick, put an EMAD head on batter side using the big ring, and make sure to cut out a port hole to get that serious thunder. Now my ddrums sound better than any set I've ever played on. GET THIS KIT!!!
Words can't even describe how amazing this set is. I love it. The maple shells are incredible, one of the best quality sounds you can get. I got the red burst shells which are gorgeous. I all over love this set. The only thing is that their mounting system for the rack tom is a little goofy, I recommend just using an ISS mount and then everything is all good.Definatley get this kit.
This kit is amazing! Having played on everything from Pearl to DW to Orange County and even Truth, this kit can hang with any of them. It has the dimensions of the custom kits without the price tag. I've had this kit for about 8 months now and couldn't be happier with my purchase. As can be assumed, the stock heads are awful, but after putting some Evans G2's and a Remo Powerstroke on the kick, it's magnificent. The only reason I gave a 4 instead of 5 for features is the paint seems to chip off pretty easily. Other than that, the kick booms, the toms sing, and the snare cracks. Don't waste your money on custom kits, buy the ddrums!!!
Well, this is about the most complete review I can give. I recently bought an orange 5 piece Ddrum AMX rock shell pack with 12" rack tom, 14" and 16" floor tom, 7"x14" snare and the big 24"x20" kick. I am upgrading from my Tama Superstar kit (which isn't easy). The downfall of this kit are these: The 12" rack tom hangs on the D mount very loosely like it is missing spacers or something. It works fine though. The drums all have a lot of overtone (especially the snare). I put on my Remo pinstripes, but it wasn't enough to tone it down. I got Evans EC2's on top (EC2 reverse dot on snare) and Evans gen res clears on bottom and that fixed the ringing. Sounds great now. As for the kick, I put on the EMAD with the bigger dampening ring. It's nice and loud when playing but not much projection right in front of kick. I cut out a 5" port hole and instant thunder! It looks sweet being that big. Also, the res side is black w/ white logo. Not like the pic. After saying all that, I have to give credit to the best part of the shells. Freakin' BEAUTIFUL!!! I got the orange and they are so rich looking with amazing wood grain. Much better than the pics. The red burst is VERY dark though. I can't speak for the other colors. Overall, if you put on these heads, cut out the port hole in the kick and tune them right, you can have the dream sound you want with the look of a kit sent from heaven. Hope this helps. God bless!!!
This thing is a behemoth. The kick will take your breath away even with an EQ pillow. The two toms are great, though a bit tough to tune. I think that might be cured by getting some good heads and seating them properly, since the stock heads are, predictably, not the greatest. The snare is great, with deep-as-the-ocean snare beds and nice bearing edges. My main problem was that one lug insert on the bass wasn't properly threaded, causing the insert to fail. Ddrum have helpfully provided replacement inserts, so all I had to do was remove the lug and replace the failed part, and I was back up and running in less than 10 minutes.A lack of written instructions was another minus, and though I knew what to do some other folks might not, particularly since this is a pretty great buy for a serious student.
About 4 months ago, I got the orange 5 pc. rock set w/ 24" kick drum. I've never got so many compliments in my life. Everyone loves how they sound, but they especially love how they look. I've owned 6 different kits in the past 10 years of playing, but I've played on dozens. These are a step above all others even close to this price range. Right away, I put the Evans EC2 heads on them and EMAD head on the bass drum and I haven't had to re-tune them yet! They might be made in China, but they have USA quality and appearance. Get the 24" kick and cut out a port hole, you'll love it.
