I had recently bought an old drum set for my first set about two years ago, and I decided that it was time to upgrade, if I wanted to be able to play in any band, because my old set just wasn't cutting it.
i shopped around for around 5 months before finally deciding on a set, and this was the one I believed was right for me, and I WAS RIGHT! I love this set, it's a great deal if your looking for an upgrade from your non-dependable drum set! The only thing I found wrong with the set, was the snare stand was a little wobbily, but I didn't really care, because I had a brand new snare stand anyway!
if your worried about the black hardware and stands, don't be because...
#1 They are just as reliable as the chrome.
#2 The paint on them doesn't chip, like you would think they would!
#3 THIS IS THE SET FOR ME I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!

When I bought the set I was afraid that they were going to be scratched or something in the shipment process, buit when I got them I was completely ASTONISHED at how GREAT the shells looked!

opened box up, notice it was cheaply made.kinda expected that though hence the
price of it.no biggie.love the almost all black design though.took everything out. not sure why the cymbal stand pieces
were in with the snare drum stand pieces
& some of the snare pieces in with the seat pieces and so on... confusing since no instructions
came with it at all.kinda wondering how a beginner (if i was one) would know how to put it together with no instructions.

snare is already put together.so i get out my drum dial tuner and whoever tuned the snare before packing it must of been
drunk. lug tensions were at 85,82,70,40,60... all over the place.get out the bass drum...it has 5 noticable dents on the inside
wood.get the front head on the bass with no problem, flip it over and the lug is missing the inner thread in it (where the bolt screws in
to keep the head on).take off the lug (rubber gasket is missing to) and frantically search my basement for extra parts i have left over
from other drum projects over the years. finally find a thread from a pearl and use it. bolt the lug back on and low & behold
the bass screw doesnt fit my new thread. go figure.have to take another bolt from another drumset i have to fit the lug now.
again good thing i'm not a beginner & this isnt my first set or i'd be in trouble.everything else went together fine until i get
to the tom arms. slip them out of the plastic and a small 1 centimeter piece falls out of the bag.i study the arms for a bit and
notice the pin has slipped out of the hole in the arm so i hammered it back in.
drumheads arent the greatest.you'll probably have to replace those and the snare before long.
kinda staisfied.kinda mad at myself for buying it.
has been a hour now and already getting really dusty on the black shells and hardware.probably have to cover it up to control the
dust its gonna accumulate.
be a good set for a kid or a beginner if they know how to assemble it.

My son was excited to get this well made entry-level kit. Cymbals and heads will be updated in future birthdays, special days, etc. The metallic red set with black hardware and C-stands is eye-catching and no doubt a few upgrades will turn this into a hot little kit. Hope to find additional matching black cymbal stands.

Great starter for my 13 yr old. He has had no issues with it. He received it for a Christmas gift. It is perfect for his level of playing at this stage.

I'm not a drummer, so I'm really not qualified to speak to the quality of the kit. It was a cheap 5-piece kit. To me, it wan't a bad deal. Professionals will no doubt want something better. This kit seems fine for the beginner or dabbler.

A friend who is a professional drummer did the set up and tuning of this kit and said it was a very good kit for the price. He was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Solid construction with a good tone. The snare was particularly resonant. The cymbal and high hat are adequate and the hardware is good.

Got this for my anniversary/christmas present from the wife. I noticed immediately the quality of the kit. The cymbals are the only aspect that could be improved, but what you get with the kit is good enough to play with out of the box. I had a drummer friend of mine, who is very good, come over and play and he said that the quality is outstanding, especially for the price! Find a youtube video on how to install and tighten drum heads so that you can tune these correctly!

A good quality set for the money. I paid under 225 on sale in Dec. 2012. Well made but as another review noted there are no instructions. Fortunately, I found a good video on youtube for assembling drums & then it was easy. No problems with the heads, just don't know if they need tuning or not, so far my kid hasn't noticed either.

Went looking for a drum set for my 7 and 9 year old and was unsure of the "jr." sets. Found Musicians Friend web site and called. Very helpful and they directed me to this set. Love it!! Great value, great product and a set that will grow with them as they get better. Also great for adults too. My friends that play in bands were really comfurtable on it and asked if they could use it as a back up for their band.. Love the store and will buy nowhere else...
