Comments about Ddrum Reflex Powerhouse 5-Piece Shell Pack:
Beautiful drums. Big, throaty sound. I've been playing for many years (Ludwig, Pearl, Yamaha, Sonor) and this is my first set of ddrums. This is also the first kit I've ever bought without first hearing it. There were no alder wood drums in my area, but I was intrigued enough to pull the trigger.
I've had them five weeks and so far I am super impressed. I'm gigging them four times a week in various situations. Naturally, durability is an issue and these seem to be built tough as nails -- except for the black satin finish. If you're going to gig 'em you're going to get a scratch or two and there's no helping that. It's a worthwhile trade-off; the combination of black satin and the size of these drums makes for a very commanding stage presence.
If you are concerned about scratches get drums with a crushed glass wrap. You can throw those down the stairs and never see a scratch.
The stock Evans batter heads tune up great. You really are good to go with them. But I wanted to try different heads. I settled on an Aquarian Superkick 1 for the 24" kick. For loud, unmiced acoustic situations I stay with the unported ddrum front head. No muffling. That combination delivers a fantastic, feel it in your chest BOOM.
For miced situations I switch out the ddrum front head with an Aquarian Regulator with a 10" center hole. Again, no muffling.
For the first four weeks I outfitted the snare and all toms with Remo CS black dot heads. Sweet! The kit sounds magnificent fully miced or acoustic. In close-mic situations I throw one square of moongel on the toms and snare. Perfect.
Last week I switched out the CS heads for Remo Pinstripes on the toms. They are deeper and rounder sounding, but with a slight loss of the CS midtone. As far as heads go, I don't think there are any wrong answers. Any pro head is going to sing, albeit in different ways, on these drums.
The ddrum snare surprised me; it is really good. I was prepared to ditch it (as with most snares that come with a kit) and go with one of my tried and true snares, but I'm totally in love. It feels great, looks great and sounds great with the CS head.
All in all, these drums are a great purchase.

Comments about Ddrum Reflex Powerhouse 5-Piece Shell Pack:
i just got this shell pack and set it up with the stock heads it came with. yes stock. i tuned em up and the drums that already had heads on them were decently tuned so kudos there. the minute i pulled them out of the box i fell in love with the color of the finish and the color of the shells. the finish give the set a very agressive look and the shells from the inside are very red. the toms have a very nice warm sound but punchy with some attack to them. very deep due to the massive size but all the better. the bass drum is by far my favorite part. so much punch kick and attack (haha) you feel it hit you in the chest everytime that pedal hits. great tone and hardly needed any muffling. the heads are even good. comes with evans two ply batter heads and evans one ply resonant for toms. evans muffled rings for bass and evans regular coated for snare. the snare looks and sounds great with the kit but i use a tama 13x4inch steel snare with this kit. all in all this set sounds amazing. great job ddrum and mf.
