The Dixson Lift looked a little pricey to me at first glance. But I spent the money and am I glad I did!The Lift is so easy to use it doesn't come w/instructions! I've been using it w/a GMS 18" SE BD. GMS bass drums usually sound bigger than their size in the first place, but the Dixson lift increased it's volume, resonance and depth by at least 25%. I'm playing the drum open, w/a coated PS3 batter and EQ1 reso. I 've played jazz gigs W/a Vater retro Bomber beater, and I'm able to play country, rock, singer-songwriter etc w/a Hard sided DW beater. Not miced. Amazing!I haven't tried it w/my 22' yet, butI'm looking forward to it. If you're thinking about buying this product, stop thinking, BUY IT!

The give you an extra pad for this and that still doesn't lift my 18" bass drum high enough .My foot pedal beater should strike the drum at the center of the head for optimum sound. With this lift my pedal strikes the head way north of center. Adjusting my bas drum legs doesn't help either. It doesn't work for me as advertised. Hence the lowest Value Rating. Obviously some one thinks highly of this unit. And like I said the concept is great. But I can think of much better ways to spend Fourty bucks. Save your money folks.

Do your homework. Make sure your pedal will work. My Ludwig Speed King and my Gibraltar both are very, very close to the wood rim at the same time the beater hits the head, which worries me. I am limited to using only the Yamaha pedal which works perfectly as long as I use the spacing material on the clamping lip. The sound on my 18" bass drum improves dramatically, especially when I play on carpet which normally sucks the sound out of the bass. This is a keeper. My little bass is now a cannon.
The build quality is excellent but the design isn't. The attachment lip for the bass drum is too thin. I had to add spacing material to thicken it up for my Yamaha pedal so it would clamp all the way. The surface the bass drum shell sits on is high quality curved rubber which won't mark the shell and there is even an extra spacer for that if you need to lift your drum an extra 1/4 inch.
Quality is excellent. The product itself will not mark your drum.
It will last a lifetime. Very durable.
Comments about Dixson Bass Drum Lift:
for a while i considered making a bass drum cradle for my 16" floor tom and after designing and pricing out the materials and fiquering the time and work involved came accross the dixon bass drum lift. it is smaller, lighter and cheaper than anything i could make. it works perfectly. i took the spurs off a bass drum, inserted them in the tom brackets and a shell mount cymbal holder arm in the other bracket and i'm pleasedwith the results.

Comments about Dixson Bass Drum Lift:
I've been using this lift for sometime now with a Gretch jazz kit w/ 18" kick (purchased from MF, of course). It's worked great. Compared to the lift that came with the kit, it's a definite improvment, especially with flexiblity in placement of my pedal (i.e. no more over-extension in motion when kicking, which happened with the included kit bass drum lift).
My only complaint, and it's minor, is some tipping of the kit happens with this lift from time to time. It might be the kit (it's very light weight, and the 1 rack tom could make it off balance), or I just don't have the lift placed just right. I've tweaked the lift placement quite a bit, and still haven't found to where I can avoid the tipping. It's a very small contact area between the kick and lift, so maybe that ,along with the weight, is the issue. But, it's not a deal killer...the Dixson bass lift is definitely worth it.
Comments about Dixson Bass Drum Lift:
The idea for the product is good. The problem I am having with it is, if I place the lift so that the pedal is where it would normally be in relation to the drum head, my pedal hits the hoop when the pedal is pressed down. If I back it off so that the pedal doesn't hit the hoop, then the beater is too far away from the head when the pedal is pressed down. I may need to adjust my pedal in some way, but I was hoping to be able to just attach the pedal to the Dixon lift and go and it is not that simple.
Comments about Dixson Bass Drum Lift:
I have used a Dixson Bass Drum Lift for quite some time now and it works great. My drum hoop was getting chewed up by the bass pedal before using this product. Works great!! I have a 18" bass drum and it works flawlessly. Great job to the designer!
Comments about Dixson Bass Drum Lift:
The Dixson Bass Drum Lift has improved the quality of my sound.I am getting deeper lows and a bigger sound from my drum now.I can tune my bottom lugs better and both my beaters on my double pedal now strike the head in the sweet spot.Awesome product !!!
Comments about Dixson Bass Drum Lift:
The Dixson bass drum lift is a must for drummers. For years we've always clipped our pedal to the bass drum hoop, but those days are over. I have a 18 inch mapex maple bass drum. I simply attach the pedal to the drum lift. Stick the pedal and drum lift underneath and past the hoop, and then adjust the legs until the bass drum is level. I've used it for gigs and rehearsal and I get a great thunderous sound out of my kick. There's no sliding of the bass drum or any problems what so ever. This is a great device and I'm just ticked off that I didn't think of it first.
Comments about Dixson Bass Drum Lift:
This works great on my 18", I adjusted my beater to hit the head 1" or so off-center (as Bob Gatzen recommends). The previous reviewer probably forgot to adjust the height of their beater. To hit dead center with the beater adjusted all the way up, an 18" drum would have to be half a foot off the ground. Anyway, the Dixon Bass Drum Lift is great, and makes my small 18" Noble & Cooley resonate much deeper than the stock lift it came with. I'd recommend the Dixon Bass Drum Lift to anyone who wants to fatten up their kick!
