This is the only drum tuner that I've owned, and it does what I expected. Obviously, it isn't hearing frequencies, but testing tensions, so it will never get the drum as in tune as the ear will. The major issue, I find, is that after getting all of the lugs to matching tensions with the DrumDial, they will not be in tune when played. A pair of lugs across from each other will always produce a higher or lower pitch than the others. I always have to do a bit of tuning afterwards. I tend to use the product to get my drums in a ballpark range of where I want them, which comes in especially useful when switching between genres that demand higher or lower tunings.
It works great to quickly tune a drum to a certain pitch, but without a good ear to do fine tuning, the DrumDial will leave you with drums that don't sound as good as they could.

          Comments about Drumdial Drum Tuner:

Bought to tune the head tension on a few banjos. Made an amazing difference to the tone/resonance. Folks in the band and crew that didn't know the work performed earlier in the day came up after the show to comment how much better the banjos sounded in their ears that evening. Definitely worth the money!!

            Comments about Drumdial Drum Tuner:

I will just ECHO so many other reviews, the Drum Dial is great to get you close, but you will still have to hand tune your heads, Pro drummers know this, but you novice drummers that think that the drum dial will tune your heads, IT WILL NOT! It will only adjust the tension. if you set every lug to the same tension, your drum will most likely still be out of tune. this Drum Dial is great to get you CLOSE!

My set never sounded as good as it does after using the Drum Tuner. Really woke up my snare drum as it was set way too soft. I didn't know what to expect because I am a beginner but boy am I glad I bought the tuner.

The DrumDial is very easy to use and is a must for serious banjo players. Follow directions for zeroing in the DrumDial and check tension 3/4" from the
tension hoop an you can be assured the tension is even. I even found a problem when I found a very low reading in one spot. Turned out to be the head separating from it's ring. Would not have discovered it were it not for the DrumDial.

                        Comments about Drumdial Drum Tuner:

This is a device to get the tension of the drum perfect, not the tuning. You will have to tune millimeters by ear. That will take practice but I'm sure you can find a instructional video. If your tension is not even on all lugs then your drum will come out of tune after playing frequently. This will not tune your drum. Keep that in the back of your head before you purchase. To get the tension equality you need this device is perfect!

                        Comments about Drumdial Drum Tuner:

Many drummers have quite rightly observed that this device "gets you into the ballpark" for your tuning, but does not aid in fine tuning any better than even mediocre ears can. So why bother with the thing? Getting "in the ballpark" is easy; it's the fine tuning that takes time and effort and practice, and no device can teach you how or do it for you.
I find that simply proceeding according to standard head mounting and tensioning practices will "gets me into the ballpark" more quickly and accurately than using the Drumdial, because the Drumdial's readings can be misleading and send me in the wrong direction.
Fine tuning by ear will be the same painstaking, experimental process anyway, no matter what method gets you started.
Keep your money - or spend it on a few extra heads - and practice your tuning. The world does not need this product.

Fantastic. I use this device to adjust tension evenly across the head and then finish tuning by ear. I love it and wish I would have got it LONG ago. Makes tuning time go by a lot quicker and gives me more time to play. It does have some weight to it and it feels built like a tank. Well machined and completely worth the price.
