Comments about DW Collector's Series Snare Drum:

I was in the market for a Ludwig Bronze snare but after I tested this drum, I was sold. I could not see spending so much on metal snare when this is available for half. I am not a DW fan because I think their kits are overpriced BUT this snare is a very good deal. The quality is great and it feels real good to play. I love the super-hoop and the feel of this drum. I've played Ludwig Black Beauties and this drum feels better to me because of the hoop and weight of the drum. It projects and has a great sound. I'm a 40+ yr player and Ludwig fan BUT I love this drum.

Comments about DW Collector's Series Snare Drum:

I bought this thin 1mm brass snare to replace an aging Ludwig LM402 Supraphonic which had started to pit. I have been playing LM402's since the 80's so I was a little concerned buying this DW snare. I have a DW Collectors kit which I love, but I've had DW Collectors wood snares in the past which I did not like (too dry sounding). This thing sounds awesome. It has a lot more low end than the LM402 and it still has that familiar metallic tone which I love. The fit and finish is incredible and is much better that the Ludwig snares. Every part on this drum is quality. I like this drum so much I have ordered the 1mm aluminum version. I will write a review of that one when it arrives.

Comments about DW Collector's Series Snare Drum:

Wow, this drum really delivers the goods. I recently purchased the 6.5x14 version. I've had several Black Beauty snare drums over the years but this DW Black NOB drum is just an exquisite instrument. The fit, finish and hardware are far superior to the legendary Black Beauty. To my ears, the drum is cleaner sounding, more articulate and slightly dryer than the BB. It also sets up easier and feels better to play. To put it another way, I sold my new Black Beauty after I purchased this one.

Do yourself a favor and snag one of these!

Comments about DW Collector's Series Snare Drum:

I jump on this snare right out of the box and after a few cranks with the tuning key this BEAST was ready for some heavy duty and very light applications. Even with the stock heads from DW it still sounded great. Throw on a new remo coated ambassador X or CS reverse dot and a new reso head and this thing is sweet as they come for the price...I really like the mag throw off and the 3 position switch that only DW can make run so smooth with no effort....This snare is built much better with more quality than the coveted black beauty for half the price. You can never go wrong with anything in the DW custom line up...This snare will stand up with any drum in this class around the world and I highly recommend this to any drummers snare collection.

Comments about DW Collector's Series Snare Drum:

The way I tune this, it has the sound I've heard in my head for 47 years of playing. Using my favorite Evans Reverse Dot head. Tried so many snares (30+?) in the last few years. Different tunings make this versatile for most anything except where you really need to hear the warmth of wood and the volume is controlled enough to hear the difference. I did keep my DW maple in a bag just in case. It's fairly priced (not cheap) which is unusual for DW. In case anyone is interested...yeah it's "Made in USA" but a DW rep told me the shell is made in China.

I can never see myself playing another snare! I like this snare drum better than Ludwig's Black Beauty. The quality and craftsmanship is head and shoulders above them. It is almost impossible to get a good sound from it.
