An all-new drum from DW featuring the punch, warmth and deep resonance of two classic tonewoods, maple and mahogany.
The DW VLT Maple Mahogany snare shell features the sharp attack and warm sustain of tonewood, with an upper "edge" of alloy. This drum is constructed with DW's Vertical Low Timbre (VLT) - a DW special feature which involves arranging grain patterns of shell plies so the outermost and innermost plies run vertically versus the traditional horizontal. This provides less tension on the shell for greater resonance.

another hit from drum workshop! although very pricey, and heavy, this snare has everything you need in a snare. great projection, and bottom, warmth and sensitivity. unreal craftsmanship its a work of art! my new favorite snare. start saving now!

First of all let me say that DW has the best customer service out there bar none. Any questions you have pertaining to their products are answered by a knowledgable professional in a timely manner.
I own 10 different snare drums from vintage Gretsch's to this new DW Edge. I used this drum recently in the studio instead of my usual Noble and Cooley Cast Aluminum and both myself and the engineers were very surprised at how well this drum tracked with little or no tweaking. I tune my snares relatively high which can attribute to a lot of overtones when recording. I wont say this snare sounded better than the N&C, but it did have a HUGE amount of low end considering the higher pitch it was tuned at. Must by the mahogany in the VLT construction. I havent yet used this drum live, but I have a feeling mic'd up and some minor eq, it will sound killer. Incidentally, this is one of the easiest playing drums I've ever used. Those of you who have used good quality stuff and have the drum tuned correctly will know what i'm saying when I say the playability and response of this drum is incredible. Another great product from the experts at DW.
The DW Mag throw off and 3 position snare tension is a must have.
Another well made made product here in the USA
This drum is pricey but very versatile and extremely easy to tune. Plays well and has huge bottom end for an Edge snare.
