I love these drumheads...I had tried these type of heads when they had the silver "metal" rings inserted for control of overtones and wasn't entirely impressed so I switched back to my reliable clear G2's. I like to tune my toms higher than what many would consider for rock type playing because I like the sticking I do to really standout when playing the larger toms. So as previously stated I tried Attack 2-ply's; while they provided a controlled sound and accentuated lower frequencies, they just didn't have the durability. I then decided to give these heads another try and I am very glad I did; they give the control of overtones I would expect yet offer a very wide tuning range. My smallest tom, the 6 inch, has plenty of attack that one would expect from a drum that size while my largest tom, the 14 inch, has the bottom end I enjoy hearing yet any overtones are quickly controlled. I highly recommend giving these heads a shot.
These heads control overtones and yet allow the drum not sound muted. These heads feature an ink ring that goes around the edge of the head as opposed to the "metal" ring that was used prior. By using ink to create the ring, this allows Evans to control the thickness of the ink depending on the size of the head. It also allows the ink to "stretch" with the head when tuned on the drum.
These drumheads can take a pounding; I am a fairly hard hitter and these heads will withstand a great deal of punishment. I previously was using Attack 2-ply heads because I wanted to try something different. The Attack drumheads just didn't have the durability and within a few playing sessions, the plastic began showing wear and tear I would have expected from a drumhead after, quite frankly, several months of playing. These heads are definitely holding up against my percussive onslaught.
Excellent value that you would expect from Evans.

Bought these heads 9/09 and placed them on my DW stutio kit. They sounded very good. About 6 weeks later the sound control ring on the 14 inch head started to deteriorate and flake off falling inside the tom. I called and emailed Evans and have not received any response. Evans is now owned by D'Addario and I guess they are just another giant company that does not give a crap. For an example of great customer service...I emailed DW about an air lift throne that was giving me troulbe and they actually called me that day, sent me a free UPS shipping label and replaced the throne. I also contacted Tama via phone regarding a older Iron Cobra pedal that was wobbling and they repaired it for free even though it was way out of warranty. Thats great customer service and the way it should be for us drummers. I spend thousands of dollars each year on drums and supplies because I am a professional musician, however Evans will not be on my X-mas list this year. Too bad cause these heads do sound very good.

Comments about Evans EC2 SST Clear Batter Drumhead:
I have an EC2 head on each tom in my kit, and I plan to keep it that way. These heads are great for providing presence at live shows with a punchy and centered sound. I recommend getting the matching resonant head for the full effect.

Comments about Evans EC2 SST Clear Batter Drumhead:
I have had these heads for about half a year and they sound great BUT! they muffling on the side falls off. It gets pretty messy and its not fun to clean out of your head. I suggest the G2 clear batter head.

Comments about Evans EC2 SST Clear Batter Drumhead:
These are wonderfully durable heads with a great sound for loud/projection music. They fit their description of being very defined and punchy with short sustain. I will continue to use them on my toms.

Fantastic!
Comments about Evans EC2 SST Clear Batter Drumhead:
Overall, fantastic heads. No muffling required. Even my snare's vibrate less now, because of the controlled sustain. I'll only use EC2 SST tom heads from now on. Get your own, you won't be disappointed!
These heads have more attack than the coated G2's I was using before. Which is better for the music that I play.
High quality all the way.
There a little expensive, but well worn it.

Comments about Evans EC2 SST Clear Batter Drumhead:
I do recommend this product. See comments above.
Replaced the factory Ludwig heads (which sounded good but would not last long) on an Epic 6 piece power kit.
The EC2's are a good upgrade. They sound great and look good. I am suprised that they have, what appears to be, oil between the plies. The specs listed them as a 2 ply head but I was under the impression that the hydraulics were the oil heads. Anyway, they are very bright and loud for a 2 ply. They are on my studio kit and I had to pick up some moon gels to dampen them. No complaints though. I'll have to wait and see how long they hold up to 2 rehearsals per week and 2 gigs per month of being beat on with Vic Firth Metal sticks.

Comments about Evans EC2 SST Clear Batter Drumhead:
I Love these heads, period. I don't write many reviews but had to say that these are great versatile, awesome sounding heads. I put a pair on my 13" and 16" toms (batter side) and it totally opened up the drum's tone and gave them both a punchy warm feel. The 2-ply contruction looks great, very sharp looking heads. I play a newer simple maple shell rock kit and I am very satisfied with the sound and projection of these heads on them. I'll definitely be buying these again when they wear out.
Comments about Evans EC2 SST Clear Batter Drumhead:
After trying the EC 2 clear batter heads on my toms, I feel compelled to share my satisfaction.
I have tried most others: most all of remo's, aquarian's performance 2s, with dot and without, attack's and others, and they are also top quality, but Evans EC 2 clear heads are the most resonant and loud (some may want to mute them slightly), and satisfactory to my preferences. I am one happy player. Also, the Evans EC 2 coated are really awesome, the coating does mute them a little more than the clear ones so no extra muting, mylar rings, etc. is required, I think I like the clear EC 2s a little better, but both are the best I have tried. They work great on my 2001 Tama Rock Stars and my 2005 Yamaha Tour Customs. They seem to be pretty durable and long wearing too. Very pleased.
