Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:
First time I've tried these heads on my Mapex kit. Their OK but I like the G2 coated better.
Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:
I got the original EC2 "Edge Control" heads a few years ago and loved them. They're no longer being manufactured, I believe, as the new generation of EC2 SST heads have taken their place. I got these EC2 SST frosted heads for my church's drum set, hoping they would attain a better sound quality over the stock heads. They do, but they don't quite act as I was expecting them to. We ordered Aquarian rings along with them; however, when I tuned the first tom to my liking and placed the appropriate ring on the head, there was an awful vibration between the ring and the frosted coating. Now don't get me wrong; these heads do sound okay. But if you want your toms to have a quick decay and like use plastic rings to achieve such, these heads will disappoint you. I should've gotten the Evans EC2 SST clear heads.
Overall, good heads unless you use rings.
The reason I rated this low is because I don't like the frosted coating.
Good quality. Well-made. Awesome heads for certain uses.
They don't go well with plastic rings, so that takes the value down.
Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:
Lets face it, reviews can be very biased. But, I will try and be open minded. These heads are very BALANCED. I play Mapex Orion Classics. (Maple). There are a lot of factors to consider. the physical properties of your kit, playing style, type of music, etc. I have a very large number of toms. 8,8,10,12,13,14,16,18. Couldn't get a 6, so I tune the 8's differently. Having tried other heads, I found the EC2's to be very midland in all respects, which for me is perfect. Easy to tune and they stay there. Good action. They allow the individual drums to be distinct and expressive. Playing a very lively head on my kit doesn't work for the style of music I play. Rock. With fast runs and a lot of notes, an open head sounds like playing the piano with the loudness (sustain) pedal pressed all of the time. Filling but muddy. I don't like a thud either. Drums should have a voice. EC2's give the drum good attack with just enough sustain without being present to long to disturb the next drum or more notes on the same drum. Even tone. Sound good with or without mic'ing. I also us a wood tip drumstick. It does make a difference, so if you use nylon tips, maybe the EC2 coated would work better. For the bottom. I like the G resonant. The EC resonant is a bit to choking for me. The sound control on the top coupled with the more open and balanced bottom creates a great balance and very flavorful. As with any heads, try one drum first and see if you like it. With the EC2 batter and the G resonant, you don't need any crazy tuning techniques. Match them up and on you go. Because your drum is resonating, find that sweet spot and go with it. You will like it better regardless of what heads you put on. Don't push or pull to much. Highly recommended

I got some coated SST heads. They didn't muffle at all! I had to get some tone rings to make them sound good. Never again will I try something new.
Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:
I put these on my gretsch birch kit because i wanted something a little warmer-sounding (i previously had g2 clears, and they were just too bright for an already-bright birch set). i found these and i was pleasantly surprised. they're warm, durable, and give plenty of tone. i'd say it's a good balance between warmth and attack, but like i said, i play birch shells. nice responsiveness too! i can really do dynamics with these.
Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:
Just put a fusion set on my Mapex 10 -16" jazz kit, just one word, "awesome" (even the 10" tuned w/ease - someone out there has obvious tuning issues) ...anyway, great responce, attack & warm tone when tuned properly.
Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:
I replaced EC2's that were on my toms with these. The EC2's were already way better than other tom heads, but these really are excellent heads. I'm using them on a Tama Bubinga set...even crummy heads sound good on them, but these SST's really bring out the lows without any ringiness or boingyness. Try them with Remo fiberskyn 3's on the bottom (stretch both heads first though). Deep toms with tone and playability. That's what it's about for me....of course if you prefer that boingy overtone, go with ambassadors
Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:
These are great heads for any drum that is 12 inches or bigger but no matter how many ways you try it, they will ALWAYS wrinkle during application on 8 and 10inch drums.
Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:
If anyone out there is considering these heads, go for it!I currently have a Gretsch catalina Ash kit with these heads and the sound is unbelievable.I have tried Remo heads,G-1's,and a few others, but these take the cake.I heard someone say that these heads do not sound good on Gretsch drums, but they are wrong. It's all about bearing edges and tuning, and these heads tune very easily.Buy them, you won't be sorry!
