Hey, I'm sorry. I put in a scathing review on the Evans G2 clear head shortly after I tried it. The problem is, I didn't know that a two ply head needs to be tuned tighter than a single ply. Then I checked the recommended settings that came with my DrumDial indicator, which corrected my thinking. It needs to be higher, like 75 to 77. (I had been using 71 to 73 for my single ply batter head.) Once I tuned it as the indicator recommended, I was happy with the results. I am now ordering one for my 13" tom (the first was for my 16"). A thread on the internet reviews recommended using a single ply on the small toms, so I will probably try a G1 clear single ply on my 10" tom.
I was impressed that this head required no gaffers tape for muting, and seems easy to tune. It appears to be forgiving of minute tuning errors.
Try it out. Good stuff.

My tom drums have Keller VSS 6 ply maple shells with the bearing edges custom formed by Portland custom drum maker Jeff Kirsch (awesome quality!) To my memory, he had recommended Evans G1 coated heads, which I have had on my toms for a long time. I thought I could improve the tone with the G2 clear, but I am disappointed almost beyond words. A single thickness head can resonate, but a dual thickness head appears to give a thud, but not much tone. I tried a looser tuning and then a medium tuning. Both were unacceptable to my ear. I re-installed the G1 coated, and I am content with that sound. (Hint: with a drum dial tuner, the G1 sounds good with a tension of 71 on the batter, and 73 on the resonant heads. Try tighter if you want more boing and less Indian tom sound.)
If you buy these, try just one at first, like I did. At least that limited how much money I was wasting.

This head came loaded on my 2012 Gretsch, Renown Kit. I was so impressed with the sound quality that when it came time to replace the heads, I knew I would use them again & again.

Comments about Evans G2 Clear Batter Drumhead:
I have used various drum heads in my days... This head completely BLOWS them all out of the water!!! Im using this head on my 12" Gretsch Catalina Club Rock Tom... IT BLENDS IN WONDERFULLY!!!
Comments about Evans G2 Clear Batter Drumhead:
Excellent
I decided to do this on the 14" Evans G2 head. I have Evans G2 on all my toms. The 14" is on my floor Tom and it sounds fantastic. They do scratch pretty easy but other than that, they're great. I would definatly pick these heads up!!!
Comments about Evans G2 Clear Batter Drumhead:
I used to swear by Coated G2's but I've recently decided that I prefer the sound produced by clear drum heads on toms. I've tried Remo Pinstripes, but as with everything Remo I didn't like them at all.For studio work/general drumming I think these are the best drumheads you can use, assuming you can tune right in the first place. When playing live I usually have to muffle them a little bit with some moongel, but leaving them open and resonant for recording works very well.I usually replace my drumheads on my main set (a ddrum dominion maple) every year, but whatever was on before gets moved to one of my practice kits, and they usually last a long time.
Comments about Evans G2 Clear Batter Drumhead:
these are great heads. g2's are great for metal. these are pretty tough heads. get these heads and stick with evans heads ;)
Comments about Evans G2 Clear Batter Drumhead:
These drum heads are great, and perfect for my style wich is metal, they are versatile though. These heads last a long time, and I hit hard. These are now my go to heads,im gonna always buy these.
Comments about Evans G2 Clear Batter Drumhead:
These heads are excellent! I changed the stock heads on my ludwig epic with these and the sound they made is amazing; its full of attack, and has a very nice deep tone to it. The head made my drum resonate more too. The only reason I gave it a 4.5 and not a 5 is because it was very hard to tune, but other than that, it sounds perfect. 2 thumbs up :)
Comments about Evans G2 Clear Batter Drumhead:
I bought these instead of a set of pinstripes after the sales guy at a local drum shop sold me on how great they were and how a lot of drummers are using them. I bought 12", 13", 14" and 16" heads for my toms because I was going into the studio to record with my band. These heads made my toms sound dead, the had absolutely no character whatsoever. I may have gotten a bad batch or something because I see that other people like them, but this is the only head I've had a problem with. I've used emperors and pinstripes by remo, hydraulics also by evans, and the 2 ply aquarian heads and they all sounded great.I gace these heads a high rating in quality because they are durable. After taking them off my studio kit I used them on a kit in the practice studio and they laster until they were beat to hell, they never broke though.
