Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:
this is a great head. i use it on my 22" mapex saturn and there's plenty of resonant projection along with a thuddy punch. of course, you can change the tone with their patented emad system. great quality. if anything it might be a little too flat sounding, but there's so much definition that way. great mic'ed, ideal for just about any style.
Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:
I couldn't be happier. I have already strongly recommended the GMAD kick batter head to other drummers. It sounds great un-mic'd. I haven't had a chance to play it yet live with a mic, but I have no doubt from the natural sound that it will mic up perfectly and save me lots of time messing with EQ during sound check.
I wouldn't normally expect to rate features on a drum head, but the GMAD kick drum batter head actually has features in the insertable dampening rings. And, I can say that they do exactly what Evans advertises. They also throw in a reinforcing patch for the batter head. Nice touch.
Well made, no question.
A few dollars more than a standard head, but worth every penny when it comes to getting great sound quickly and easily.
Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:
This drum head has great sound, a good deep base and just an overall excellant sound quality. I intend to purchase another one. Awesome!
Excellant sound quality - really great
Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:
I just bought the Evans GMAD 22inch , and it's so AWESOME ... I use to play with a pillow in my bass drum , not no more once i got the GMAD , I love it including with the 2rings you get ... I'd tell any drummer to go get :)
Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:
I'm not entirely sure if there's that big of a difference between this and the original emad, but this head is very nice regardless. I think the new design produces a slightly deeper resonance. I have the thick dampening ring on, with an aquarian regulator resonant head, and a large flat piece of egg crate foam layed flat in the drum to reduce the mid range resonance. This setup on my Tama Rockstar kick with a heavy falam patch and the plastic side of a DW beater produces a massive sound for hardcore and metal music, it hardly requires any EQ at all! Tons of lows and a perfect click. This is definately a worthy investment for and heavy drummer.
Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:
How much difference can you make by going 10ml to 12ml? A lot. Got the 22 on my Mapex Birch kit with a ported Aquarian Regulator on the front. The sound is thick- and heavy. Which is good- maybe really good as I get used to it. I was used to a good amount of boom from the Emad and the Gmad is more like a solid thuwump. Best to describe it is a studio/mic ready- no muffling needed powerhouse. I also had to tune it a bit higher than my previous emad to get some resonance out of it- but it's a really interesting sound. I can't figure out what they did to "improve" the muffling ring (unless they changed the glue or plastic that holds the foam ring to the head) everything else looks the same. If you're looking for a power house, deep, round sound, thwump bass drum. This is a real surpise. This head would be fantastic for rock/metal/country/pop/funk.... not jazz or blues though..
