I was looking for a really punchy, deep sound for my drums. I tried these out. The whole deal with the oil and the two-ply and all that is what sold me. In addition to that they are blue. I used them in the studio and they sound great. I use them live and they sound great. However, it took me forever to get them to the point where they sound great. I feel like they have a narrower range of where you can tune them but once you get them there, they sound just as good as any other head one would use to play rock music. You also have to keep in mind that any sustain you want with these is mainly controlled with your resonant heads. I suggest getting these if you have the time and patience to mess around with the tuning, otherwise I would just get some other dry rock tom head.

Okay...Let's get started with the "battering." (No pun intended...Chuckle...Chuckle.) These heads were everything that I have ever dreamed of until I actually bought them. I put these heads on a couple of days ago and to my dismay...I have heard better tonal quality from a dead carp than from these heads. I am a big fan of Evans' products but these Hydraulics are a bit disappointing. The product reviews regarding Evans Blue Hydraulic heads were fairly convincing and favorable in relation to the sound I was attempting to achieve. However, the sound produced is dead, non-sustaining, and virtually inapplicable to any live setting that I will ever encounter. The good part is that I will transfer these heads to my studio kit and use EQ to get the desired recorded sound. In short, I would have to say that the live sound is dead and if you want that "warm" focused sound, go with the G2 Coated heads for the live stuff and use these Blue Hydraulics for the studio work.

Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
I only use these heads on my Crush clear acrylic drum set as they have a sharper sound. These Evans blue heads warm the kit up to an almost wooden sound and gives me just what I need.
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
Easily the best head I have ever used. I've tried: Evans G2, Remo Ambassador/AmbX, Remo Pinstripe, Remo Black Suede, Evans G1, Aquarian II, Remo Renaisannce, and a few others. The Hydraulic head provides a deep, punching, yet resonant tone. It's honestly the tone i've been looking for ever since i started drummer. Also, it doesnt require muffling rings or moon gels. Phenomenal drum head. Please just buy this head, I don't know how else to convince you.
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
This drum heads are amazing they work great for hardcore, death metal music. They are really muffed so if you want something loud this is not for you but if your into muffed/Dark drums this is for you.
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
Swapped my Aquarian 2's out for these and was much impressed with the Hydraulics' warm, bloomy sound. However, I was much impressed ONLY AFTER I HAD TUNED THEM CORRECTLY. Unless I matched them up with the EC Resonant heads and tuned each drum to the note I wanted, the heads sounded muffled and cardboardy. Once I had them tuned, though, they opened up and gave me a large, fatty tone. You'll have to tune these accurately, but they do offer a beautiful sound if you take the time.
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
I got these heads after a friend recommended them to me. They sound great and have a nice resonance to them.
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
A great sounding head for toms.I put the Evans EC Resonant on the bottom and a great sound became better. Tension these heads tight on the top and bottom and you still get a low sound with a very short sustain. Tuning is a breeze and the sound is a must have.
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
I've been using Evans alot longer than I care to think about there quality and sound are something I can awalys count on. I have never had a head failure and the sound for tom toms is unsurpassed. No fifteen inch head though, I have to go to the competiors pinstripe head for the sound of a oiled two ply head.
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
All I can say is I cant believe the clarity and deep tone that these beast give out!! They are actually much quieter than other heads but the deep low tone they give is unbeatable, with mics hooked up to them they will be hard to beat!!
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
I tried these heads our on my very high end Mapex kit and they made a great kit sound even better. They are easy to tune, have very minimal ring, even on the 8 inch tom, and they have a really nice deep tone. They are just awesome..wish I would have tried them earlier.
Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:
This head is awesome. It's super easy to tune. I have two of these heads- one for my 12" and 16" toms. They have a deep sound and they dont ring at all. Oh yeah, they look amazing too!
