      Retro screen

      By Trevor-wIQLy

Comments about Evans Retro Screen Front Bass Head Black:

I got this head with an EQ3 and the Evans EQ pad, and it sounds incredible. I have two bass drums, and the other has the old plastic head on the front, and I can't even get it to sound as good as the drum with the retro screen.I recommend getting the Evans EQ resonance gate. For my taste, I like something to touch the front head for a little more punch. I will be using the EQ pad (muffler) in the secondary bass for a little more boom for tuning it lower than my primary bass drum.

      Classic Thump!

      By Daniel Andolini

      from Asheville, NC

Comments about Evans Retro Screen Front Bass Head Black:

The evans Retro Screen resonant bass head is simply amazing. I just got mine and I was not let down one bit. I got the evans EMAD 2 on the batter side and let me say, " it's a killer duo". I have always loved of the sound of a single headed bass drum but like the look of no resonant at all. With the retro screen it gives me that sounded but keeps my shell & look, "in the rounded". If you want a resonant head that will give you a solid focused sound. This is the head for you.

      Thumpin

      By Drumm Phil

      from Apple Valley, Ca

Comments about Evans Retro Screen Front Bass Head Black:

I decided to buy this after watching Danny Carey play with Volto! in a small club. He kick sounded amazing. My experience with it has been that I can turn up my kick mic without feedback or boomy overtones. Every sound tech loves it and it seems I get more questions about how I set up my bass drum than any other tech question. It eliminates the high tones that you get from a mylar resonant head. It's beefy! Yum

      unbelievable!

Comments about Evans Retro Screen Front Bass Head Black:

what an amazing idea! of all the heads out there, who would have thought a screen front would do the job? i have the EMAD on the batter side and this head on the resonant side. The bass can be adjusted so that it's either tight and punchy, or open and boomy, depending on how you tune the batter head. and it looks so cool on the front of the kick! highly recommend this head if you're looking for natural sounding bass!

      Best Resonant Bass Head Around

      Ask me a question

Comments about Evans Retro Screen Front Bass Head Black:

I bought this head about 4 months ago and I have been thorougly amazed with it since. I have a Tama Rockstar Custom and I added this to my bass drum. To me it doesn't make the bass much more louder, but it definately makes it clearer, cleaner and brings out more tone. Definately a must have for all drummers!

      SERIOUS UHMMPH

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Evans Retro Screen Front Bass Head Black:

I have a vintage Gretsch kit with a 20x16 bass drum, and MY GOD, when I put this retro screen on the front with an EMAD on the beater side, the only word to say is UHMPH, in a carpeted jam room the drum sounds so deep its as if it is mic'd out, and I'll tell you somethin', if you get the screen as loose as you can get it without haveing rattling lugs, it enhances low-end attack to the max, a must for any drummer who wants the most out of his/her bass drum, ALSO, one of the greatest features I have yet discovered, when you mic a plain old drumhead, theres always a "sweet spot" to position the mic, not with the retro screen you can just slap you mic ANYWHERE and it sounds just as good as the last position you had your mic in, very functional, very durable, very punchy, Oh EVANS YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!

      Great attack.

      By MeHitThings333

Comments about Evans Retro Screen Front Bass Head Black:

I just bought one of these along with an Evans EMAD bass head & some AF patches. Combined, they provide a very focused low-end attack. Great for math-metal or any music with intricate bass parts (Danny Carey uses these). There is no large hole for microphones/air venting, but that won't be needed since the mesh design allows air to flow freely, and the head won't muffle the sound. I reccomend using one of these rather than using no resonant head at all, since it will help keep the shell rounded.

      This is a mesh screen!

      By Brownie

      from Kansas City

Comments about Evans Retro Screen Front Bass Head Black:

This is a mesh screen front head for kick drums. You can also use it on the batter side for silent practice. Always make sure the tension is high enough to rebound the beater, otherwise it can break. It may be possible to attach a drum trigger for low-cost electronic drum triggering.
