For me, this is the perfect snare head.It is a tiny bit less ringy than a coated emperor(my previous fav snare head) Excellent response, perfect amount of ring, with a nice crack sound.I tune my snare medium and this head is perfect that tuning - nice crack with body and subtle ring (overtones) that give it a natural(not too dry) sound. You really shoudl give this head a try if you think the remo rings steal too much tone from your snare but also don't want that super ringy sound....

I must say, this head is god-awful. I tuned this to where it sounded excellent... and then it happened. I kid you not, the first actual hit I executed on the snare I did while practicing caused a massive dent to appear. It took three months for one dent to even appear on my last snare head (which happened to be a single-ply Evans Power-Dot head)! I find it really sad because the ST Dry is supposed to be a double-ply head, but yet it dents oh-so easily... well, at least this head anyway. It might've been a dud, but still, I was not impressed with it. I don't even hit hard! Sorry Evans, but I'm gonna stick to Aquarian heads, which sound much nicer anyways.

Comments about Evans ST Dry Coated Snare Drumhead:

The head sat perfectly on the bearing edge all the way around during head replacement. This is a well made batter head that does a very good job of eliminating excessive overtones from my 14x5.5 maple snare, but still delivers a nice rimshot tone. I would definitely purchase this head again.

Comments about Evans ST Dry Coated Snare Drumhead:

Evans is no stranger to my family of drummers, Our oldest son recently added Evans black Hydraulics to his Rodgers drums (What a sound) and his son plays the same. With the price we get from M.F., its possible to upgrade. Evans like any head will last when played properly, tuned and mounted properly. I have never been a "POUNDER" when playing. Proper tuning and mic's give me all I need for shows. Thanks M.F.

Comments about Evans ST Dry Coated Snare Drumhead:

This head is by far the best snare head I have played on. Very quick and strong attack with exceptionally good dynamics. I Would recommend this head over Remo counterparts. I use it for Jazz, classic rock, pop, and even punk. Also has a decent surface for brushes.

This head added the life to my snare that my music dearly needed. The best snare head on the market. It only dents because I play long shows and hit HARD.

These ST DRY Coated Heads work very well on all Snare Drums, wood or metal, however, they work TERRIFIC on any size METAL SNARE DRUM, especially the PICCOLO's...they will make any Metal Piccolo give you that high End Pop with no ringing overtones like no other snare you have heard before. The ST DRY and HD DRY Coated are the only heads I use on my dozen plus Snare Drums!

Love this as my snare batter head, nice overtone control, good attack, nice and balanced sustain at all volumes. I've used an ST Dry for probably 6 years now and it held up admirably for both practicing and performance. I use them with an Evans Hazy 300 on the snare-side with a 13x5.5. I tried it with a Hazy 200 for a while, but it made it too sensitive and open sounding. Haven't tried a Hazy 500.

I switched to this snare head from the Evans EC Reversed Dot. I feel this head has more of the snare tone I was looking for. I would describe it as having more snap and punch and much better sounding rim shots then the reversed dot head. Its strong and loud and I plan on using the ST Dry on my snare from now on!

What a great head this is!! Thick, Durable but still has a lot of sensitivity. This will totally be my snare batter head of choice for years to come. I've flipped back and forth with Remo heads for years looking for something that's thick, takes care of high ring or overtones on it's own (without those gel things or tape) but still has sensitivity enough to not sound "dead". I found it. Looks sharp, sounds sharp. I'm glad i tried it, I'm a new Evans fan.

                        Not my favorite...

Comments about Evans ST Dry Coated Snare Drumhead:

I definitely was expecting something different. I just don't like dry heads that much because the holes in them makes the snare sound incredibly buzzy. It might have been a bad head, or just tuned it wrong, but I immediately put my HD head back on. In my opinion, it made the snare sound too wet and you couldn't distinguish between snare hits in a roll, they all kind of blended into one long roll in the mix.
