What this does is get your drum in the ballpark of being tuned. If you really don't want to tune by ear but what perfectly tuned drums, and in a hurry, I have the perfect solution. The Drum Dial is accurate but slightly tedious. The Torque Key is fast and easy, but a bit inaccurate. Go around the set with the torque key and get all your lugs to the same tension. Then go around again with the DrumDial to fine tune what the Torque Key missed. Works every time, quick and easy.

It's a good idea in theory, just implemented poorly. The dial that indicates the torque specification has no marker to point to any of the numbers on it, not that you can really use the numbers anyway, as they're on a small dial that rotates completely at least five times... I think this could have been decent, had they put some thought into it. I'm going to give this to my 4 year old nephew to play with. He likes shiny things.

The idea is brilliant. You will get even torque all the way around the rim. Problem for me: tuning doesn't always require exact torque.

VERY useful, I've read a lot of reviews that say it doesn't work or that it doesn't tune all the way, but I've never had to do any fine tuning after using this and my DW's sound great! The only hard part is finding the right tension that makes the drum sing but once you have the setting make sure you write it down to remember it'll save a ton of time! Highly recommended!

I've used this key many times, and just recently purchased one for myself. It is REALLY a nice tool to get you started tuning... basically speeding up the process. But please don't expect it to replace a good trained ear. The DrumDial gets you basically the same results with slightly better accuracy. Because this measures lug tension and not head tension, you'll have a little more work to do by ear once you've got the tensions even. But remember, just because the head and/or lug tension is even... does not mean the drum is "in tune". Each drum size, shell construction, and head construction makes its best tone and sound at different tensions. And the head and drum are NEVER perfectly uniform. So, get something like this to put you in the ballpark of being close to in-tune, then spent the time learning to tune by ear. Overall, excellent product, and much cheaper than the DrumDial which only gets you slightly closer to the end-game.

This tuner was great. I bought this not having a tuner at all and was just looking for a tuner with a little extra. This tuner makes tuning your set alot easier. When I tuned my drums together with this the first time they sounded like drums should sound. Overall this product is easy to figure out and use and just makes tuner simpler.

ok I got this when my guitar player bought if for me I recently just built my new kit and decided i would try it out I used it to tune all of my new drums and I do have to say that it is a good product but you have to watch the tension because every time it clicks it loose alittle bit of pressure which is easily fixed by checking after every lug and I would also put some pressure on it when your turning it it seems to work alittle better but deff a must have...

I got this drum key with the evans head package i ordered for my snare. I've never been much good at tuning drums, and i was dreading tuning my snare. but then i learned how to use this.once i figured out the proper tension, i tuned the snare well in under 10 minutes. it normally took me almost an hour to tune a snare right, and then it went out of tune and it was a pain to re-tune it. this, however, makes that so mch easier.you will still need to go around checking pitch, but this brings the pitch between the different parts of the head into so close a range that it becomes really easy. I would reccomend this to anyone who wants to tune their drums faster and better than before.

Needed a tuner that was easy to use and got the job done. I know tuning by ear best for experienced musicians, but tilI get there I needed this tool. It works, and is easy.
