OVERVIEW

Small drums, big tone!

Play the Fancy Pans Mini Diatonic Steel Drum and feel the sunshine and tropical breezes. Steel drums were originally fashioned from discarded 55-gallon oil drums by the pan men of Trinidad in the mid 1940s. Accurately tuned to A 440 with a 1-1/2 octave range, these mini steel drums deliver that great sound popular throughout the Caribbean and in many other areas of the world. Easy to play, durable, and great for all ages and abilities. Comes with tabletop stand and mallets. Key of C.

Comments about Fancy Pans Mini Diatonic Steel Drum:

Here's how I overcome the "dead" middle keys. They're not "dead", just need a little more force. I get two smallish superballs from the local party store and jam them on some pointed wooden shish-ke-bab skewers (slim, pointed, wood, 12" works about right). Stick the balls on perpendicular to the "seam" so they don't split apart. Volume improved 4X, and the "clunk" of the supplied sticks agains the sides is minimized.

Comments about Fancy Pans Mini Diatonic Steel Drum:

The number of notes is so limited that even a beginner can't find much enjoyment. Outside notes sound fine. Inside notes are dead.

Review the music you want to play before buying anything. That will tell you what product(s) you will need.

Small Drum with a HUGE sound

Comments about Fancy Pans Mini Diatonic Steel Drum:

I bought this to add some relaxing island sound for our band, and it works great for that. My only gripe is that the smaller notes in the middle require much more force than the outer ring notes to play. You'll probably want to make a higher stand for this, but PVC is cheap enough. I was amazed how loud and good this sounded. It's durable enough that I let my 2-year old bang away on it and he loves it. I recommend it!
