If you are looking to make your set look like the vintage outfits from the early days of Jazz, do not miss this oppertunity. Installation is very easy. Holds heavy cymbals, although there is some movement within the arm assembly while playing due to the style of build it can't be helped I suppose, as all drum sets will vibrate naturally. It would be better I think, if the main cymbal holder length was reduced. If you google pictures of the eearly Slingerland and Ludwig sets of the 1950's, thhey were much smaller yet did the same job. Purchase on line and save money, or have your local drum shop pre-order.

I agree completly with the previous reviewer. I like the saving of space, the retro look, the price, the quality... everything about it. I will be ordering a second one soon to utilize with my "mini kit" for the very same reason described in the previous review. I am very pleased with the purchase.

Comments about Gibraltar Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm:

Anyone looking at this product already recognizes the advantages of mounting a ride cymbal on their bass drum, so I won't go into that. I own 4 of these cymbal arms now, two of which are used on 20" bass drums, and the other two on 22" bass drums. They are fairly sturdy, overall. There is a little bit of arm sway from left to right when riding the bell (due to the relatively thin 9.5mm l-arm), but nothing to indicate it would ever topple over. The bracket grips tight and secure.

If there were any complaint, it would be that the 18" arm might be too tall for some on a 22" bass drum. What I did was remove the rollpin, cut 4 inches off the arm with a pipe cutter, then reinstall. Problem solved.

I do wish that the tilter be gearless for more cymbal angling options (it uses a standard geared tilter). Of course, that would drive up the cost, and it's not essential.

I also REALLY wish that it came with a toothed 9.5mm memory lock for the bracket and l-arm. There is a recessed area on the bracket which I assume is designed for such a lock, and I don't understand why Gibraltar does not include one.

Other than those issues, I would heartily recommend this cymbal arm. It's a good solution for an inexpensive price.

Comments about Gibraltar Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm:

I've installed this on (2) of my kits, one a Gretch and the other a Mapex, both without a hitch. Felt a little squeamish about drilling into the shell but that was a requirement. After installation I gave each kit a good workout with a 20" Zildjian heavy ride. Results = no movement of the arm at all. Though I've only had them installed for a week or so they seem pretty solid. Feels like the kits I had back in the 60's where the cymbal was at a comfortable level and position to get to pretty fast and without any reach. I play big band jazz and most of my work is on the ride cymbal. Not tiring at all to play all night or at rehearsals. It's a winner!

Comments about Gibraltar Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm:

I like a company who specializes in one thing and does it well, as opposed to one who tries to do everything and is only mediocre (or poor) at it all. Gibraltar does hardware.... well. This mount is no different. It's well made, the clamps tighten nice and tight and feel sold.
I bought the first of these to mount a ride cymbal to a bass drum on a smaller set I have (4-peice) and while installation does include drilling holes (I didn't care about that on this set), installation is very easy. I eventually got another one and mounted it on the other side to hold a splash cymbal, Buddy Rich style. As expected, it worked great. My goal was to have the set be as simple and portable as possible and eliminating floor stands was a part of that. I buy Gibraltar hardware whenever I can and I have a ton of it on this set and my other (11-peice) set, including a full double-bass rack system. The only suggestion I could make is maybe if they made a shorter version of this. My ride cymbal arm was a little too long to get the cymbal as low as I'd like, so I removed the tilter (hammer, punch), cut the rod down (chop saw) and re-assembled it. This got it exactly where I needed it. I don't see this as a design flaw, just a modification I needed to make. I could have mounted it lower on the bass drum initially and avoided this modification but, live and learn. Great product!

Comments about Gibraltar Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm:

I was looking to lighten my load. I got rid of one rack tom, and mounted this one my bass drum. I did use a new style ludwig mount however because it has a memory lock that keeps it from moving and makes it easier to set up.I have it set as low as it will go which works for me. Anybody using a 24" bass drum might find it too high if they like to sit low.(Of course you could put the mount lower on the bass shell.)The top piece is longer than the old Ludwig or Gretsch mounts. I added a boom arm to the front clamp on my tom holder for my 16" crash so the only cymbal stand base I need is for my 18" crash on my right side. This has made my trap case much lighter.

Comments about Gibraltar Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm:

I liked having a bass drum mounted cymbal stand "back in the olden days" and only carried one stand and the hi-hat stand with my outfit. Also, I have never been a great fan, or even seen, a truly "virgin" bass drum since they are loaded with lug and vent holes anyway.

Convenience and addiction is how I regard this piece of equipment. I now have three of these mounts and will probably order a fourth. It can get a bit wobbly when you use a heavy cymbal and really whack it (I get wobbly under those same circumstances) but I have never had one move or give out.

Highly recommended and one mount I would not never be without, so to speak.

I PUT THIS ON MY 60'S GRETSCH SET, AND LOVE THE VINTAGE LOOK IT GIVES. I USE MY 22 INCH SABIAN RIDE ON THIS MOUNT WHICH IS FAIRLY HEAVY, SO I HOPE IT HOLDS UP...SO FAR, SO GOOD. THIS IS MY HOME SET, SO IT WILL STAY IN MY LIVING ROOM MOST/ALL THE TIME.

Comments about Gibraltar Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm:

This does what it's supposed to very well. I'm using it as part of a very minimal setup.
I have converted a 16" floor tom into a bass drum (using the Pearl ISS1216/JG16 setup). I mounted this cymbal arm to the 3rd/top remaining leg bracket. This one is probably a little too long for my preference, but there's plenty of adjustment options between the 3 points of positioning to get your cymbal right where you want it. It's holding a 20 Dream ride without any apparent difficulty. It might be able to hold heavier cymbals, but I wouldn't get crazy.
                  Overall, a great product.

Comments about Gibraltar Bass Drum Mounted Cymbal Arm:

So I'm not even sure if many people know about this little baby but I have to tell you, if you are looking at buying this and you're like me, upset that they're no reviews, don't 2nd guess anymore. I'm here to tell you that this little piece of hardware is worth every penny. I personally converted my floor tom into a bass drum because I needed a small kit for jazz gigs. So naturally, since I play in small (im talking about in a tiny corner or on a stage with an upright, piano, etc) I needed more ways to conserve space. What better way then to have your ride cymbal on your bass drum? Plus it even looks retro, which is why I looked into finding one of these in the first place...why did they get rid of cymbal arms on bass drums. At any rate, this thing supports my 20in Zildjian K Custom perfectly, I have yet to have a problem with the arm falling over or anything. Plus installing this was really easy. If you want to conserve space or want a retro look, just buy this already.
