These are solid and cost effective. I was fixing up an old set that I purchased without the resonant hoops. I went to a local shop and asked for hoops not knowing anything about the thickness, etc. Luckily, the guy knew his stuff so he ordered these for me. As I compared them, it was obvious how much sturdier these were than the apparent 1.6mm hoops that came with the set. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you like to crank your snare and have 1.6's, you need this hoop! I repaired a snare for a friend who had it so torqued one tension rod was twisted INTO the hoop! I put one of these on and problem solved. So, if you invest in a beginner to mid-level set, these are a great investment. They're not die cast but, you can replace all four batter hoops for the price of ONE die cast. Get 'em!

When I got my new pearl VMX drum set, my 12" tom sounded horrible! I sent the drum and hoops back to Pearl and I was told that there is nothing wrong. Then I inspected my Pearl hoops and found that they both had defects where the head touches the hoop. I bought two of these Gibraltar hoops and I am totally satisfied. They solved the problem with my 12" tom. These hoops are thicker, I could not find any defects at all and they cost less than Pearl hoops. Side by side you can really see the difference in quality. Buy them.
