I play out five days every week. I enjoy using the gibraltar stand next to my meinl congas. It is very diverse, able to hold my 12 1/2" fiberglass djembe and a medium (9")Ashiko. However, it does have its limitations holding heavier djembes, tipping over with my traditional tweebola djembe from Ghana.

Welds on mine failed within the first year. The welds suck. The base is way to small and light the bars need to be longer and heavier. Even with a small drum it shakes really bad. Impossible to mic well with it shaking that bad. It also squeaks all of the time which makes it useless for the studio or stage. It's ok for small drums like 12 or less and just messing around at a drum circle with friends. But it is not good at all for the studio or the stage. For them you need something that is alot nicer and stronger than this stand. Not at all worth the money. For the type of situations this stand is best for you might as well just buy a strap and play it the traditional way, and have the extra freedom of being able to move around.

Get the Gibraltar GPDS Pro Djembe Stand instead

      By Rick Sterner

      from Sacramento, CA

      Comments about Gibraltar Djembe Stand:

I had this stand for several years and, while it served its purpose, I finally upgraded to the Gibraltar GPDS Pro Djembe Stand, is worth the investment. Their cheaper stand is not easily transportable: you have to remove the two top brackets with an Allen wrench. The base does not lock in its opened position, and if you try to reposition the drum, the legs might fold together and collapse..On the other hand, I can recommend the Gibraltar GPDS Pro Djembe Stand. It is built like Gibraltar's drum set hardware: with quality components, easy adjustment, and foldability. It is heavier, but it's rock-solid on the stage.

      Worked great until it broke

      By pbach

      from Lawrence KS

      Comments about Gibraltar Djembe Stand:

Owned it for about a month until the metal snapped in half. Its a pretty worthless stand, it moves a around a lot. The stand requires some kind of anchor to keep it in place like squeezing it with your legs (why use a stand at all?). Cool idea and fancy design, although I wish I had not purchased this product.

      Better Alternatives

      By PJ-mn2z0

      Comments about Gibraltar Djembe Stand:

This is a very old design, unchanged in tens of years I believe. It's rather heavy, yet not strong. There's a particular weld that recieves a lot of stress and breaks easy. The positive is it is flexible as far as positioning. Go with a much simpler and cheaper and lighter basket stand. LP makes the Universal Aspire stand--works great.

      Djembe Stand

      By jonny12mac-_F3rL

      from Undisclosed

      Comments about Gibraltar Djembe Stand:

This stand is increadibly unstable. I put my Remo 16 inch djembe in it for the first time and I was not sure if the stand was even gonna stand up. Then, when I played the djembe, the whole stand shook. The stand is not at all as tall as I had expected; I have to play very low while standing up. Although there are ways to adjust the stand, they are very inefficient, in that you have to take the stand apart to adjust the height and width.

      Another Solution

      By Aaron-EDHSX

      from Mantorville, MN

      Comments about Gibraltar Djembe Stand:

The best feature of this stand is versatility. As others and I have experienced, the stand may hold various world percussion instruments like my Remo Djembe, and the other smaller hand drums I use, but the limitation is obviously in size. A cheaper solution is using a snare-drum cradle (like the Pacific 900 Series Snare Stand). Just crank the cradle all the way up and tip it 45 degrees. It isn?t any more stable, but for sitting drummer it works great. I have been doing it for a couple years now, and it hasn?t failed me yet.

      Comments about Gibraltar Djembe Stand:

The stand is unstable for my 16" Remo. The base does not stay on the floor and looks like it will tip over. Not at all worth the price. When playing the drum, the stand shakes.

      By Shadow Clan

      from Pinetop Arizona

      Comments about Gibraltar Djembe Stand:

Cheap welds that tend to fail while on stage. The angle piece just above the tilt adjustment gives way. Only adjusts high enough for a 5'6" drummer. Squeaks uncontrollably during recording.

      Awesome for jamming

      By WooTang

      from Etiwanda, CA

      Comments about Gibraltar Djembe Stand:

It can also hold a tubano or a large doumbek and has great adjustability to wether you want to play standing up, sitting down, or mounted on a drum rack! It is also quite stable when playing bass tones and realy allows the drum to resonate while playing.
