Gibraltar

Mean, Intrusive, powerful, efficient.

By the design of Gibraltar's flagship series bass pedals, when you take it out of the box, you just know this thing is going to do everything your foot wants it to. It's got a stealth design on the pedal board and a solid aluminum stabilizing "rock" plate.

The main concern with any kick drum pedal however, is feel. Feel is where the genius of the Gibraltar design teams shines bright. These drive systems come with loads of adjustability so you can tune and fine tune to perfection. The 9611 Direct-Drive system uses solid linkage to create a seamless, fast-paced feel pedal. The cam shape and linkage combine to deliver power and speed with seamless response.

Each adjustment can be made efficiently and on-the fly either by hand or with one of the 3 tools stored on board. Spring tension is easily adjusted from ridiculously high rebound to super floppy with the turn of a thumbscrew at the base of the spring. Beater travel distance can be tweaked with a drum key. The axle at the point under which this clamp grabs is also knurled for non-slip operation. This also provides for indexed tuning and is marked with three lines as reference points. Beater height is also set with a drum key and memorized with a memory lock. The lock makes quick work of setting up the pedal and ensures perfect positioning every time. The bass drum hoop clamp is tightened by a wing nut, conveniently positioned at the right side of the pedal board. Say goodbye to bloody knuckles from trying to reach under your pedal to attach it. And as if all of that weren't enough, the position of the beater can be moved laterally with a quick turn of an Allen head set screw if you plan to use the pedal with percussion brackets.

The no-nonsense design of the Intruder shows these things mean business. The base of the drum pedal is now solid aluminum with a strategically placed bead in the middle. This ensures maximum rigidity while keeping the overall weight to a minimum. Attached to this plate is also the on-board tool storage with the included drum key and two Allen wrenches. The pedal board is also aluminum, eliminating any possibility of flex. Choice areas machined out of the pedal board save weight and add to the stealth look. The uprights of the Intruder pedal, when looked at closely have a slight curve backward (away from the drum head) to put the axis of the beater in a more perfect location than a traditionally designed upright. These uprights are bearing loaded for maximum fluidity. Also loaded with a die-cast bearing is the upper attachment of the spring to the axle. Putting a bearing in the spring ring minimizes wear and eliminates friction, adding again to the fluid motion. Each of these features enables the drive system to put maximum power to the beater (or beaters).

The double pedals all have a slave pedal with the same fixed Rock plate and the same adjustments for you tune to mimic your main pedal to a tee. The linkage between the two pedals has 2 case-hardened universal joints. Two length adjustment points allow you vary the distance between your two pedals from around 14" to 20". All attachment and adjustment points are double-locked with 2 drum key screws.

These bass drum pedals come pre-assembled for plug-n-play operation. Simply drop in the beater and you are ready to get kickin'. The beaters are 2-sided for two vastly different sounds. A curved felt side or a flat plastic side will suit any genre of music. Combine that with a pivoting head and you get a perfect strike regardless of the size of your bass drum. Each Gibraltar pedal also comes with its own gig bag for safe transportation.

The no-bull design of the Intruder pedal is all about power and efficiency. The Intruder brings to the table both and looks good doing it. They will definitely knock your socks off.

Gibraltar Intruder Direct Drive Double Bass Pedals

Features:

Self adjusting mallets are very cool! On board tools are very handy! Carrying case was a nice surprise! Mounting system for pedal to bass drum is very innovative! I really like the raised wing bolt for easy access! Dialing in my pedals to just the way I like them was a breeze, with all the adjustments they are capable of!

Quality:

The plastic blocks with the Gibraltar logo that mount on top of the rocker arms, fell out of their slots the first time I played them! Granted, their not necessary, but funny they would do that! Other than that, I have absolutly no complaints!

Value:

For the price, these can't be beat! I feel that I got way more than I paid for! I've tried more expensive pedals, and these can give them all a run for their money!

Overall:

My Intruders play like a dream! I am 100% satisfied! I would match these up against more expensive pedals any day! I also have the matching Gibraltar HH pedal so my feet are in Heaven! Great feel! Great response! Great pedals!

CANNOT say enough about these pedals!

Features:

Every adjustment possible!  every adjustment keeps it's place after rigorous playing, nothing is plastic (except beaters of course), and everything is built like a freakin tank!

Quality:

the highest quality, definitely professional pedals.  any player of any skill would be impressed with these.

Value:

Can't beat it!  just simply impossible.

Overall:

I bought these pedals to begin learning double pedal, and since i bought them, i've gotten pretty proficient with it.  been using them for almost 3 years. they're easy to play at any speed, and even any dynamic level.  they really pack a punch, and can even play quiet jazz withouth any struggle to control the intensity.  their playability equals if not surpasses all other double pedals, and at half or even less than half the price.  heavenly smooth, quiet, loud when you want, soft when you want, and not too heavy or light.  on top of their amazing playability, the adjustability is unmatched by any pedal at it's price range.  they are just as adjustable as Tama's Iron Cobra pedals and will never lose their adjustments.  they look even more awesome in person than in the pictures you can find.  right out of the box, or bag rather (the included carrying case), the first thing i noticed was how absolutely gorgeous these pedals are!  everything metal, multiple high polished parts (not crappy chrome plated); these things really are beautiful!  the second thing i noticed was their high quality!  I mean, they're Gibraltar!!!  professional pedals in every aspect imagineable!  if you're looking for something of quality to learn on or something you need to use on the road for the rest of your life, go with these pedals, seriously!  AMAZING!  i could go on and on, but the only thing left to say is, GET THESE PEDALS!!!  you will NOT be dissapointed, EVER, for as long as you own these pedals.

gibraltar intruder direct drive double pedal

Features:

very adjustable. the footboards can only go so low before interfering with the frame, though.

Quality:

i've been using it quite a bit for a year now, and it's holding up very well. there is a tiny bit of play developing in the direct drive mechanism, but if anything, it makes the pedal faster. it's still smooth and quiet.

Value:

good price. good pedal.

Overall:

this is a VERY smooth, comfortable pedal. i could easily use it the rest of my days. it's adjustable in all the important areas. it's reliable. as i mentioned, the footboards can only go so low before they collide with the framework. that wasn't an issue until i got a tama speed cobra, and got used to the (very) low footboards. not a big deal to most, i'm sure, i'm just really sensitive and picky about that angle and spring tension, and so on. i use them on my primary kit, and they get used a lot. the beaters are ugly, but perfectly adequate. i tried some others, and went back to the originals. overall, a very good pedal.

I've played dw 9000's , iron cobras, trick, axis, these direct drive gibraltars are the fastest and smoothest in my opinion. I have been playing on dw 7000's and i found this gibraltar double pedal used and i gave it a shot. Now i can play the bass drum faster than ever before. needless to say i have a used set of 7000's for sale!!!!!

The newest ones may have fixed this problem: the model with the hoop clamp on the right side, with the extended, tightening nut won't allow attaching to some hoops without the cam bashing the batter head! I have to play it without attaching it and will be selling it soon.
