Comments about Gibraltar Intruder Strap-Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:
After over 35 years with a Rogers Tilt-O-Matic bass drum pedal, I was inspired to buy the Gibraltar Intruder after intensive review. I have had it for a week, and have noticed a couple of things drummers might find important. The pedal comes set up in a really low foot angle and I found it necessary to first adjust the spring angle on the upper bar by loosening the lug on the upper right of the top frame and rotating it to point straight down on the spring. That gave the pedal slightly more upward angle and I adjusted the spring tension a bit higher to begin.I was still not satisfied with the pedal angle so I took a look at the strap itself and noticed that it is not as pictured even in the spare parts picture (I also ordered a spare kevlar strap with the purchase). It only has mount holes on the extremities (one on each end), and not two on one end, one on the other. So I dissembled the screw mount on the lower side, moved the strap as far as it would go under the pedal, and drilled a new hole to contain the mount screw and therefore shorten the strap and gain more pedal height. Although the drum key adjustable mount screw is convenient, I would suggest replacing it with an equivalent screw with a flat top head (either phillips or regular head), as the screw is so long that it will click on the bottom of the pedal mount as it comes from the factory with such a low setting. Also, after adjusting the spring, make sure to secure the round set knob on the top or it will vibrate and make unpleasant noise. The only other thing I might add is that the entire pedal mechanism stands so high that it actually is difficult to adjust the beater height so that it strikes the actual middle of my 22 inch bass drum. I do not like short beater settings, so I am having to put up with some of that at present, as it strikes high on the drum.Overall, I would say that I am pleased with the exceptions of the above and would only add that the entire weight of the assembly is enormous compared to my previous pedal and definitely not as fast (yet!).
Comments about Gibraltar Intruder Strap-Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:
OK I haven't had this pedal long but, it's the best I have ever played. Don't remember what Dad's Singerland set had though. Better than the Tama that came with a Imperialstar set. Better than the 2 prowler pedals I had on my double ddrum set. I get it going with 2 of these fast. Don't slide on carpet at all. Sweet.
Comments about Gibraltar Intruder Strap-Drive Single Bass Drum Pedal:
I have owned Ludwig, Pearl, Axis and this Gibraltar pedal. The gibraltar pedal beats them all, hands down! I have a Ludwig Centennial kit with a 22x20 bass and this pedal makes that bass BOOM! There are not too many adjustments that I really think make pedals too difficult to use, but just enough to make it work. I can get more power out of this pedal than any of the other pedals I mentioned earlier. Great price as well.
