Comments about Gibraltar Lug Locks:
THE PROBLEM THESE SOLVE: Lug screws de-tuning on the snare drum nearest where the sticks hit for rim shots.
There are a lot of sophisticated products out there to keep your lug-screws from de-tuning, and all of them work but they tend to be costly.
Enter this little gadget. At more than 5O cents @ they cost more than they should, but they are the cheapest thing out there and they work.
My only two complaints about them are 1) more expensive than they should be, and 2) the back edge is sharp. The first you can't do much about. The second can be taken care of by radiusing the back sharp corners with a sanding drum on a dremel (just the back - the sharp shoulder that engages the rim in the front is what makes it work).
If you want to change heads or tune differently you just pry these off with a thumb. When you've got your head as you want it, put them back on - they are reusable.
You can put these on every lug if you want, but I don't. I just put them on the rearward four tension screws of the snare drum (8 or 10 lug). Fast, easy, they work, and since they're cheaper than anything else, I guess twobuck-a-drum isn't much to stave off the annoying overtones that occurs from different tensions.
These work - no downside, would have gotten five starts if they were 3O @ and had radiused rear corners.
