Comments about Gibraltar Turning Point Deluxe Cymbal Stand w/Brake Tilter:
These are nice, sturdy stands, they look cool with the aluminum legs, but they really didn't give me what I want for the price. They are not as light as I thought they would be, and the cymbal holder just doesn't work as well as I thought it would.
I bought these stands for the features, but they didn't make it that much better of a stand. The main thing I was looking for was lighter weight, and the aluminum legs sold me. Unfortunately, the stand isn't really any lighter than any of my old double braced stands. One reason is that the tubes are super long (great if you like really tall stands, not necessary for me), so I think I'll cut some excess length off the tubes.
The cymbal holder is a neat idea, but in practice is really no quicker than a conventional wing nut. I also cannot get the holder as tight as I want on my ride cymbal, and it can move much more than I like. The felts also damp the cymbals more that the little rubber isolators that are used on my Mapex stands.
The memory lock on the legs is cool, as is the memory lock on the boom. It makes no sense that hieght memory locks have thumbscrews, yet you need key for the lock on the tilter.
Gibralter hardware is always of great quality, and this stand is no different.
I spent the extra money on three of these stands for my gigging setup, thinking they would be lighter and quicker to set up. It was worth the price.
