      OVERVIEW

Designed with Alex Acuna himself and constructed in his homeland, this is an authentically Peruvian cajon.

Designed and trusted by the master Alex Acu±a himself, this Special Edition Cajon is in a class of its own. Constructed in Acu±a™s homeland, Peru, this cajon is made with Peruvian Mohena and features intricate artisan designs. It features rubber feet and an adjustable faceplate. Additionally, the internal snares can be carefully adjusted. Perfect the tension of the snares for the ideal amount of sizzle and buzz and see why this is Acu±a™s favorite cajon for flamenco music. Alex Acu±a Alex Acu±a played in local bands in his hometown of Pativilca, Peru from a very young age. As a teenager, he migrated to Lima where he joined the Perez Prado band at age 18. As his musical skills advanced, he moved to Puerto Rico in 1967. Steeped by now in traditional Peruvian rhythms and sounds, Acu±a moved to Las Vegas in 1974. He brought with him a wealth of Latin American sounds and his prized expertise led him to perform with stars such as Elvis Presley and Diana Ross. From there he joined the jazz-fusion group Weather Report and produced several successful albums. Eventually, Acu±a became a session performer and was chosen to work with many huge recording artists. Alex Acu±a played with Whitney Houston, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Carlos Santana, Beck, U2, Paul McCartney, Roberta Flack, and many many others.Developed by one of the most skilled percussionists and cajon players, there is no doubt that the Gon Bops Alex Acu±a Signature Special Edition Cajon will live up to every expectation.

Comments about Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Special Edition Cajon:

I picked up this and the Gon Bops Rumbero at the same time to compare. This one has a lower bass tone, and a drier bass (strings go across the top corners of this vs the double V in the Rumbero). I prefer that drier bass and find this box slips into different musical styles more easily. The snare has a lot of snap to it, the bass is nice and low. It's not as responsive or textured as the Rumbero, but it's still a responsive Cajon and a lot of fun to play. It's my new go-to Cajon.

I'm a seasoned player and tried many cajones and by far this cajon is the winner in my book. I got lots of complements on the solid boom sound and also the looks. This cajon is very well made and it's also a piece of art with all the colors.

Comments about Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Special Edition Cajon:

Bought this on a whim, after a weekend jam with friends, and everyone struggling with drum machines and keyboards for rhythm, which just didn't sit in the mix, or moment, with instruments and vocals. Spent the extra money for the appearance and build of this one, as my condo IS my studio, and everything is on display. Firstly, it's gorgeous, with the tongue and groove woodwork, and blends in beautifully in the studio. Secondly, the "kick", and "snare" are VERY authentic, and lots of nuance in between. In fact, I feel a bit usurped in having spent 30 years and alot of money on about every drum machine on the market, to get this animal and find the kick and snare sounds I had always been looking for.

Comments about Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Special Edition Cajon:

After researching many styles and types of Cajons, I found this one to be not only the most beautiful instrument, but also it seemed to be of the highest quality and the best options for my needs. As a student studying music at a university, I have found this instrument to be useful in personal settings as well as small venue performance settings. It has a beautifully sharp snare quality, with an equally beautiful contrasting bass sound that, while not possessing the most resonant lower tones I have experienced on a Cajon, I love. The instrument produces a beautiful tone, and while it can be risky to purchase instruments online that you have not personally tested, I am very pleased with the results.

Comments about Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Special Edition Cajon:

I've been playing this Cajon for about a week and I love it. Looks great, and sounds amazing. Great low end bass tones, and nice crisp snare/slap tones. I've been using a few of my friends cajons while shopping around and playing whats out there, but I played out with this one the night i received it, and I couldn't beleive the reviews. People in the bar were asking who makes this Cajon, because it sounded so much better than any others they have heard, not to mention the great design and finish....it's definitely and eye catcher. I mic'ed the back with my Audix D6 and the front with my Audix SCX-1's that I use as overheads on my kit. Sound was exceptional after going through the board with minimal effects. All the reviews on this Cajon were spot on and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. You may pay a little more than some of the other cajons that are out there, but this one is definitely worth it.

Comments about Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Special Edition Cajon:

I had been searching for a cajon for about two years. Every time I would go in to a music store, I'd seek them out.... sit down, bang on the thing, put it back. Sometimes, the "kick" sound wasn't there. Sometimes, the snare sound wasn't there. Sometimes, the kick sound WAS there, but the buzz of the snare sound simultaneously wasn't right. Then, I stopped in to a Guitar Center in Portland, Oregon. They had about 10 cajons. I went through the usual process. Move it away from the wall. Sit down. Hit it. Put it back. Repeat. Until I hit the Alex Acuna from Gon Bops. Struck the middle. Deep, resonant but not tubby. Then I smacked the upper right corner of the face and was in awe of the tight snare-like "crack". Grabbed some brushes to go along with it and wow. Jazz kit? Yep. Americana friendly? Yup. Trust me. This box is the stuff. I am currently using it in a live set up in a duo. I play guitar or keys and sing, and have this set up with a pedal like a kick drum. You can just see the crowd light up when I add a little percussion to a song, heads start bobbing, smiles on the faces. I mic it with an Audix kick mic- soundhole or face, doesn't matter. Cannot speak highly enough of the build quality, sound, and I haven't even MENTIONED the appearance. It is a pretty piece of furniture. There you go. If you want a cajon, just do it.

I bought this based on reviews of others, without actually laying hands on one beforehand. I don't normally like to do that for percussion instruments, but the comments on this cajon are so positive, I thought "go for it!". And I'm glad I did - this is a marvelous cajon. Great sound for both bass and slap, and possibilities for other sounds as well. The finish is beautiful, even jaw-dropping. I do have a couple of very minor quibbles: there were no instructions on how to adjust, and the size is non-standard, so if you want to upgrade the case there aren't many (or any) choices. Still, I'm very happy with this cajon.

Comments about Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Special Edition Cajon:

First, I must say, pictures can not do justice to the beauty of this instrument. It is absolutely gorgeous. Also, it comes with a gig bag with shoulder strap and front zipper compartment.

We tend to be familiar with the Meinl or Pearl models for the cajon, if you are using it in place of a drumset. If you approach this cajon in the same way, you may be surprised or disappointed. High pitches in the upper corners and low pitches on the lower portion of the front plate. This cajon follows the same principals, but the color options are so far superior that the instrument feels completely different from the Meinls and Pearls.

Every spot on this front place is a sweet spot for some type of sound or feel, and there is a learning curve to find the best spots for your type of music. You can generate all of your highs and lows to replicate a drum kit sound all along with X-axis, never having to move along the Y-axis. This is deceptive, cognitively, but it opens up a treasure chest of new musical opportunities. As you explore the remaining space, you will find color options that we are not used to with the cheaper cajons. This is a musician's cajon.

Comments about Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Special Edition Cajon:

I have been playing cajon for nearly three years now. I learned to play on a relatively inexpensive, but nice model, owned by the church in which I am a member of the praise band and another cajon (the exact same model) I was borrowing from a friend (who does not play). Over the last 6-8 months, I have become somewhat in demand as a player, so I decided it was time to purchase a cajon of my own. I use the cajon in a variety of musical styles ranging from bluegrass & mountain music to classic rock and funk, and a variety of venues ranging from front porch jams to night clubs. As I researched which instrument to purchase, I was at first overwhelmed with the variety of choices. I finally decided on this model, due collectively to the positive reviews, the beauty of this piece, and the Alex Acuna endorsement. I LOVE IT! It sounds equally as great "unplugged" or mic'd. Depending on the setting, I use a kick drum mic placed at the rear port, and occasionally will use an SM58 up front to pick up my shakers and foot tambourine. This is, in fact, a beautiful instrument with a very wide range of tones. The in-laid wood is gorgeous, finished with a very high gloss clear coat which sparkles under stage lighting! It appears to be built to last for years with dove-tail joints along the edges and sturdy feet on the bottom. The carrying bag is also very nice and promises to keep my cajon looking like new for many gigs to come! Thank you, Musician's Friend, for offering such a great product and for consistently being "right on time" with your shipping!
