Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
I tuned the heads out of the box, and it sounds great. Some prefer more of a piccolo sounding snare. No drum truly does it all. Instead, this has a touch deeper, richer sound, with just the right amount of shell resonance. This will suit a broad spectrum of styles, from jazz to rock, and will sound great. For the money, the hoops, lugs, and strainer are good quality. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. The product is worth its price, and makes my whole set sound better.
Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
Great snare for the money.
So I just played another gig and used this beautiful snare again for the entire night. You see I play in a band that does all styles of music at each gig, from light jazz to funk , R and B , rock , you name it, and I will often use more than one snare as the sets change, usually playing a 60's vintage Slingerland chrome on brass to cut with the funk and rock as the night goes on. Versatility is a must for me for changing volume and musical conditions.
I have owned this snare now for over six months and it is one of maybe six snares of all kinds that I use, but the only 6 1/2 inch depth that I have. I could not stop smiling as I played because this snare sounds sooo great! The sound is full and rich. It does not require a heavy hand to make it project. In a low volume gig like last night , the snare projects beautifully with very little effort. In a louder setting it really cuts with authority and again with out having to beat the crap out of it to pull the sound out. Originally bought for my blues gigs,( tuned lower), this snare is now my favorite for my regular gigs, tuned up. It is very well made , looks great, nice rims , well worth the price. But the sound....wow!
Worth the money.

Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
I think I've pretty much covered it. Lets put it this way this drum is an absolute keeper. It immediately took the place of my 6.5" brass Pearl free floater. I'll conclude by saying for a snare drum this is about as close to perfect as you can get.
Incredible drum. Mine is a 6.5" natural maple. Great crack with punch and depth. Clean and precise. The die cast hoops give the drum added dimension. Pearl makes great drums. This snare will go with a Reference set that may have been a little pricey but I can't help but laugh sometimes when I'm playing because those drums sound so good. This snare functions perfectly from a sound standpoint with the Reference Kit. The strainer is real simple and basic, yet perfectly effective. It would be real easy to put other snares on this drum but I don't intend to mess with a great thing. At least not until maybe it becomes a necessity. There is some isolation of hardware contact with the shell as the strainer and lugs are mounted with plastic washers reducing or eliminating direct contact with the shell.
TOTALLY FLAWLESS.
With this drum compared to more expensive high end snare drums. I'd say you'd be hard pressed to get more bang for your buck. Excellent value.
Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
I purchased this drum (in the 6.5 ") to go with my Master's, Pewter Glass kit (which is an incredible kit) a little over a year ago. I got it used from here, and it was like brand new! What can i say, it is an awesome snare! the only modification that i did was put an Evans vented head on it. The tone, crispness, and quality, is absolutely fantastic. The only snare that i have that comes close, is an early 70's Slingerland 7" steel, 10 lug snare, that i got with my Marine pearl, classic rock kit in "78.
I would highly recommend this one to anybody, not only for the sound, and appearance, and quality, but the price! Can't beat it!
Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
This snare drum, The MCX Master Custom Snare Drum, was recommended by my private lesson teacher. I had been looking for a versatile snare I could take from a jazz gig to a rock gig. This snare drum really cuts out the all the overtones due to its diecast hoops, so if you are looking for something less fat and more of a squeal I'd go with a Pork Pie. I bought this snare from another music company for about the same price. I ended up returning it within the 30 days, not because I didn't like it but because I didn't fall in love with it. Looking for a snare drum, I'd say, is similar to looking for a companion. The price was great. The sound is fat and has a wide tuning array depending on what interval you decide between both heads.(A fourth is usually the standard, with the higher note on the bottom head.) I'd reccomend this snare drum to any active musician though I acknowledge that it wasn't for me.
Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
I bought this snare and was very impressed with the acoustic warmth. This snare has a very broad scope of genre capability, I was actually looking for a wood hooped snare but fell in love with this snare. I put a evans double ply on it and went to town. Do not expect a long resonance with this warm snare, great for recording due to the clean response.
Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
Versatile and musical, this snare fills the great stylistic and dynamic ranges that I require it to. Highly recommended to anyone, as proper tuning and head selection can make this snare stand out in the mix, no matter what genre you're playing.
Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
I found this snare when shopping around for an upgrade. I was expecting to drop at least $600 because I figured that I would only find a drum with the quality and dimensions I was looking for was for a ton of money. I tried this out before seeing the price tag. The tone & tuning range is awesome (I recommend a mid-range, "fat" tuning for this beast) & is very musical. The hardware is the best I've seen personally, at any price level. I usually have problems with tension rods popping loose after a gig or 2...not the case here by any means - it stays in tune after extended play. And when I saw it was under $300, I was sold. Get this snare and have no regrets.
Comments about Pearl MCX Masters Series Snare Drum:
I have the 5.5 model. This snare has a nice ring and when tightened, it sounds great and cuts through anything. The best value for the money. The remo heads that come with it are the perfect match. It looks and sounds great right out of the box. Just tune it up to your style and you are good to go.
