OVERVIEW

A US-crafted maple and poplar snare loaded with generously designed, throwback hardware.

With a name that harkens to the classic era of "That Great Gretsch Sound," the Gretsch Brooklyn series snare drum is hand-crafted every step of the way in their Ridgeland, SC factory by skilled drumsmiths. The cornerstone of this retro sound is a slightly thicker 6-ply maple/poplar shell which is completed with a 30-degree bearing edge, classic Gretsch round badge and the new "302" die-cast hoops. Accompanied by a choice of 4 satin or nitron finishes, these ingredients all combine to create a dry, warm and open sound. The Gretsch legend continues.

FEATURES
  • 6-ply North American maple/poplar shells
  • Proprietary Gretsch 30-degree bearing edge.
  • Shell interiors are finished with classic Gretsch Silver Sealer.
  • Brooklyn snares come fitted on batter and resonant side with the new Gretsch "302" hoop
  • The Brooklyn Round Badge has a black/pewter color scheme with classic embossed Gretsch design

Great sounding open snare. Batter has a cutting sound and resonating edges. Has a great feel and bounce on the heads while playing.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Brooklyn Series Snare Drum:

This snare is awesome. I have it in satin mahogany, in the 5x14 configuration.
Very versatile. I prefer it tuned low, it has an awesome funky crack to it. Response is great, and is just very fun to play. Hardware is nice and sturdy, I love the throw off and butt plate.

A couple of gripes that prevent me from giving it a perfect 6.
First, the permatone heads aren't my particular cup of tea. I know some who love it, I know some how don't. I just happen to be in the latter. However, they aren't bad heads, it just comes down to personal preference.
Secondly, the snare wires aren't my thing either. Like I said, this is more personal preference.
Thirdly, now this is more nitpicking, it is an 8 lug instead of a 10 lug. However, I'm not going to lose any sleep over two lugs. After swapping out the permatone heads with heads I prefer, and swapping out the snare wires that suited my tastes, this has easily become my go to snare for just about anything.
