I have played on many sets before. But this is a steal for the price. They sound great and look even better in person. Get you some evans G2's and go to work.
probally the best sounding set i have played in my LIFE! no joke! replaced with some fresh evans and the sound of this birch kit will sing to you!also the kick has a deep tone that does give a nice punch! but too bad gretsch has discontinuedmaking these sets...
I purchased this kit, hoping for a decent set. My expectations have been far surpassed. I replaced the stock heads with Evans ec2 clear heads, and they sound great. The toms have a nice full sound, snare can be tuned to get a decent sound, and the kick definitely has some punch. The hardware is very solid, and the finish on the drums is gorgeous. Everyone that plays my kit loves it.
This is a very nice set. Ive owned it for about 3 years now. The ball in socket mounting system allows for maximum moveability for the toms. The kick sounds like a cannon. Each drum has very nice tone for rock and jazzy styles. The only thing i wish i did differently was got the standard sizes because the toms are a little bit too high pitch for my likings. Overall great kit for the money. And the vintage burst finish is amazing.
Bought these budget priced drums for the rehearsal studio, but was so pleased with the appearance and sound, I used them on gigs. As with most lower priced drums, changing heads and snares will improve the sound. I've owned Slingerland(2), Ludwig(2), Rogers, Pearl, and DW and these Catalina birch drums hold their own with any of those top line drums. You'll have to pay so much more to get a better sounding or better looking set.
This kit is so versatile, I use it for my jazz and heavy metal bands, and it sounds great for both!
Wow, I purchased this set at a local drum store and I couldn't be happier with it. Every drum sounds amazing but one thing that i would recommend would be changing the heads (they sound like paper). I think I'm going to get the 16 floor tom and the 8 mounted.
I've wanted a birch kit for years. I just picked these up and recorded with them today and they rock baby! The toms are in the mix and the kick sounds round and in your face. Granted, I did re-head them with pinstripes and a power stroke. The hardware is better than I thought it would be. I saw a Catalina Ash kit at the music store and the hardware looked like it wouldn't hold up. The T mount has bolt through action, not threads tapped into the cast iron. I had a Ludwig mount I had to replace with Gabralter because it was made that way and pooped out quickly. The drums feel solid and sounds awesome. The snare is ok. I put a coated ambassador on it and it's got punch. It's not as good as some of my other snares for recording, but it's got pop. The color was bluer than the pictures on line. I thought the Carribean Blue had more green in it, but it's blue. The price was right, jump on yours before they are all gone. Keep on rockin'. Peace.
Well I bought this kit in chestnut fade and it had the quality of a $2,500 kit, no joke! I was going to buy the gretsch catalina maple but the birch was thicker so I gave it a try and after 40 years of playing, all I can say is wow! I put some evans ec2's on and it had truly amazing tone! Pro quality kit....enough said!
I own this drum kit and i couldn't be more happy with it. I've even played dw kits and thought this kit sounded 10 times better!! No lie! They sound great with any type of music. You will not be sorry if u purchase this drumset.
I have been playing for 35 years and have owned dozens of drum kits. Gretsch covers all types of music better than anyone, hands down. Just bought a birch fusion kit and it is amazing, tone, clarity, volume, it's all there. Gretsch has never left me down. This bass drum is Loud right out of the box
In my 30+ years of drumming I have played Rogers, Ludwig, Pearl, and Tama kits. I was a little leary of getting another birch kit because my Tama birch kit was really hard to tune to that "sweet spot". But the price tag on these made me go to my local music store and try them out. I bought the kit that day and have been playing it exclusively for the last 3 months. The shells look great and sound great once you replace the original heads. The only draw back is the 14 inch floor tom. It just doesnt seem to have the bottom end that I would really like. I got my set when they offered the free 8 inch tom and I am really glad I did. The hardware is "entry level" grade and I have had to replace a few pieces of hardware with the extras that they provided with the kit. One other pet peeve is that it is really difficult to rim mount mics out of the way due to the GTS Suspension tom mounts. Overall, this is a really good value. I am pleased with my purchase, and am hoping to buy another for the rehearsal studio in the coming weeks.
This is an amazing kit. The construction quality and the sound are of a kit costing 3 times as much. I still haven't changed the stock heads as they sound great and tuning is so easy. The bass drum is loud and tight. The snare, if anything, may be a little too loud, but rimshots pop and the snare cracks, although the sweet spot is a little smaller than I'd like. The floor tom might lack a little bottom but it is only 14" and still sounds very good. This kit immediately made me a better drummer and the sweet sound only stokes your motivation to play and practice. It can rock hard or smooth out nicely.
I've owned quiet few drums in my 22 years of playing these drums are really nice did not like snare but who does for money u cant go wrong suggest remo emperor clear for great tone good mounts that toms are own had my own cymbelsstands for money u cant beat them oh they dont make this kit anymore so get them why u can
This is a great sounding set for the money. They have a beautiful finish and pretty good hardware. I liked mine so much I bought another one for the road.
I got the set a month ago and love it. I wish it came with 2 boom stands and 1 straight stand though! Otherwise it rocks. I bought the cymbal stands and 2 cymbals and it cost like $200.00. I recommend this set to anyone who wants a crazy drum set.
Amazing set. Great projection. Nice compact size there is no lack of loudness either this set is by far one of the best I ever played.A+
