OVERVIEW

A powerful, oversized snare with dark, retro tones and an open range.

Dubbed the "Swamp Dawg", the Gretsch 8-Tube Snare is a multi-faceted drum and a versatile addition to the Gretsch product line. The tuning range is expanded due to the deep 14 x 8" mahogany shell that, when tuned low, creates an open "swampy", dark, throaty, "lo-fi" timbre reminiscent of historic recordings from the '70s.

FEATURES
  • 6-Ply mahogany shell
  • Chrome hardware with 8 tube lugs
  • Satin natural finish
  • 2.3mm triple flanged hoops
  • Fully adjustable side pull throw-off with fixed butt plate
  • Remo USA coated Emperor batter heads, hazy Ambassador snare side head

Tone from the murky dark of the swamp. Order today.

Comments about Gretsch Drums Swamp Dawg 8-Tube Snare Drum:

Great drum, huge tuning range, it's like Steve Gadd on 'Aja' meets Darren King on 'Odd Soul' with some moonshine and cigarette smoke rubbed in. Comes with a 42 strand wire and authentic Evans heads (Coated G1 on top, Hazy 300 on bottom and is finished with the Gretsch Silver Sealer. The drum holds its tuning wonderfully and sounds great from top to bottom of the tuning range. As a bonus, the drum is BEAUTIFUL and will turn heads! Highly recommended!

Comments about Gretsch Drums Swamp Dawg 8-Tube Snare Drum:

I was a little apprehensive when I first got this drum. You have to find the sweet spots in tuning for it, but contrary to what you might think, if you have the right batter on it, you can crank this drum pretty high and get a nice crack out of it. I play in church, and we play some contemporary modern stuff like Hillsong(which could be a genre on its own I guess) And a mid-low tone works with that, and this drum can do it perfectly. We also play some gospel, and this can be cranked pretty high and belt out a nice cracky, crisp tone with the right head, I find that the Emperor X and Emperor snare side work great with it. To say nothing about the 42-strand snares that give it unmatched sensitivity. I will say that although this is a great all-round drum, you should have a metal/steel/brass one to go to for large venues, I crank it high when I need some extra volume out of it, but I usually take it down after because it puts stress on the softer mahogany shell.
